I always had plans for a lot of cool things that I wanted to do- I wanted to play the guitar, I wanted to travel to California, I wanted to ride dirt bikes and take epic spills and make epic jumps and write.

So I did it.

But I  wished  ( I was like 6 or 7 at the time) – every chance I had that I could be a blond white girl and I also wished to be a Starship Captain just like Captain Kirk but those wishes never came true,  sad to say.

So after being let down in the wish department with the space travel and the blond thing I stopped putting stock in wishes.

Besides, my Dad’s sister who had a host of problems but was my friend and I loved her dearly said one night while she was suffering from a particularly bad bout of depression that she had lots of wishes and none of them ever came true.

She said it with such sadness and despair I decided at age 10 maybe making wishes wasn’t such a good idea.

She died 14 years later and no not a single wish of hers ever came true.

She was a talented artist and songwriter  and taught herself the guitar and had a great singing voice, but she was so broken she thought she had to wish to be those things, she couldn’t see she was already capable of doing any one if not all of those things.

Years later I saw this cartoon- I wish my Aunt Sharon could have seen it, maybe she would have seen wishes are good things- that they should inspire us.

So give me one or three or a hundred wishes. I’ll use them all. Who knows where they could take me.
