So Many Ghosts, So Little Time

Last November I went on a three day trip to Victoria BC to drink tea and learn some new ghost stories by way of a tour called Ghostly Walks

What could make the entire, somewhat extravagant experience even more exciting?

It was a walking tour that you took at night PLUS it was starting to rain – just a little and there was a chill to the air.

It was one of the most DELCIOUS trips I have ever been on- the stories I heard made it that way.

I learned a story about a gruesome murder that involved a botched execution.

This is the dock they dragged the accused- and soon to be convicted Joseph Nuana  down and to the steamship that would take him to Port Townsend, Washington to face trial.

I learned about a man who once worked as a banker and went on to become a great poet.

Robert Service stumbled over dead bodies laid out on the floor in a dark make shift morgue and I saw the place where his ghost lives  now.

So to speak.

I went to a courtyard where executions used to take place.

I walked through a dark alley where once upon a time someone fell down a well and died a horrible death, so horrible that someone felt the need to beautify the sight:

I even learned a story about a ghost who haunts a chocolate shop. Don’t worry about this ghost- it’s a child and he’s missing some fingers. That’s not so scary, is it?

I saw the place where a graveyard was horribly desecrated and heard the story about how the angry spirits exacted revenge – over and over again.

I stayed at a grand hotel that has a few ghosts of it’s own- one is a kindly old woman who knocks on your door and asks for help getting back to a room that doesn’t exist anymore and there is  shadow of a man who hung himself trapped against the ceiling on  top floor.

Not many people would spend the money or the time to go and learn some ghost stories. Who would do something like that?

Me, that’s who.

I would.

And I’ll be doing it again very soon.

Here’s a little hint on the direction I’ll be going:

See you soon.

  1. Bravo. I admire your spun and zest for adventure.

Years ago when I was a reporter for a small town community newspaper one field was labelled as haunted. Animal mutilations were frequent there. Many folks said it was aliens others a witches coven.

I decided to investigate the scene at midnight one starry night. The field was deserted. Silence filled my ears.

In the end nothing happened but it was exhilarating to visit the site.

Keep up the good work and keep us informed. 🙂

  2. I live on Van. Isle. I spent countless hours days weeks in Victoria having had friends and family that lived there. These are stories I never knew so I was surprised to hear about them. Thank you.
