Why are people so afraid of ghosts?

They are the shades of what used to be

people we knew, animals we loved,

homes we wanted to live in forever.

What is there to be scared of?

Maybe it’s not the shadows of what used to be

that we are afraid of-

maybe its the grief

that deep and dark sense loss

those fearsome and unquiet companions

that walk with our ghosts

that terrifies us the most.
