SHAKE THAT BONY FINGER.
SPEW, RANT, RAVE.
BURN THE WORLD DOWN
DON’T LET ME STAND IN YOUR WAY.
BESIDES.
I
DON’T
CARE.
WHEN YOUR RAGE IS SPENT AND YOU ARE LONG GONE.
I’LL WRITE ABOUT YOU, SING ABOUT YOU, PUT YOU IN A SONG.
AND THEN.
I’LL
EAT
GELATO.
My Writer’s Journal
What I learned about writing and myself today.
It’s one thing to write about the end of the world, to contemplate the many ways it could happen and who could bring it about.
It’s an entire different kettle of fish when you actually want it done for no other reason then you have decided it would be best for all involved if somebody grabbed a roque mallet and went Jack Torrance on the world.
The world is not a perfect place and all of the yelling and screaming and threats and self righteous rants won’t make it so.
I learned that from training my dog.
If you yell all of the time or step on their paws or slap their noses or hit them with water from a spray bottle when they don’t obey you, they get to the point to where they hide every time you raise your voice for any reason at all.
In my writing none of my antagonists are angry.
They don’t screed and yell and reach down into someone’s throat and rip their tongues out just to shut someone up.
They don’t jab their fingers into anyone eyes and pull their eyeballs out of their sockets and stamp them into a gooey mess because someone doesn’t see the world the way they do.
They don’t wave their boney fingers under someone’s nose and then jam it up into their nostrils and pull their brains out because someone doesn’t think the way they do.
My monsters, the dark and twisted souls in my stories understand they are imperfect creatures living in an imperfect world.
Despite all of their imperfections and the imperfections around them they find a way to thrive.
We should all be so lucky.
Today I ate a bunch of cookies.
I used to hate cookies.
Today
I learned to enjoy sweetness.
My Writer’s Journal
What I learned about writing and myself today.
Today I thought a lot about people.
I write about them so it only makes sense, right?
I have to admit, because I’m a writer I’ll throw a word or a story out in my day to day conversations just to see how people will react.
For example, when drop it on my Political friends that I write and keep an active blog they’ll ask,
“Really? I didn’t know that.” They will look a little nervous. Their mouth will twitch in this horrible way where it looks like tiny little hooks are trying to relax their lips in an effort to look calm, cool, at ease.
” What do you write about?”
” Oh. Horror stories. Stuff like that.” I’ll say.
Then they let out a little jagged breath and look relaxed.
I’m not so sure WHY they do, but they do.
Funny right?
I mean a good idea is a good idea and there’s no saying where they’ll come from.
A couple of days ago I went to a function where at least four people I knew didn’t recognize me.
I haven’t seen them for awhile, but it’s only been a few years since I saw them last.
It was pretty awful.
I walk up and say hi and I got this weird, ” Who the heck are you ” looks.
When three of them realized it was me, they said things like ” Oh, I didn’t recognize you without your glasses.”
I use to think it was lame that nobody recognized that Superman was Clark Kent and all that put them off were his glasses. But I guess it’s possible.
The fourth person was honest. She looked me up and down and said, ” My God, your hair is short, it’s blond and … and…you look … I mean…honestly you don’t look the same at all.”
I was pretty shook up.
If you think it’s great to look into the faces of people you know and they have no idea who you are ( even if the changes are ones you’re ok with) it’s not.
I felt like a ghost or something. It was unnerving. I didn’t like it a bit.
Today I learned that no matter how bad a day gets, Pizza and a good cookie will fix what ails you…if you let it.
