The Unhaunted House

RDP Friday: HAUNTING

There are  no painted pumpkins placed upon the porch

there are no styrofoam  tombstones dotting my freshly mowed lawn

no zombies stuffed with shredded plastic are hanging from the trees,

there are no linen ghosts  tied to the window screens

Not a single black cat cut out is tacked to my front door

no paper marche devils are sitting on wicker chairs

I have no tin pressed witches on my porch holding  bowls of treats

nothing that runs on batteries will cry out Trick or Treat

There is  no one home at this House

on this Halloween

unless you count me,

the witches, the zombies, the ghosts,

the devils and demonic cats

who were most certainly not created in a factory by machines.

Happy Spooky Caturday

I’m behind on posting today because I’ve been watching Vincent Price movies all day.

But it is Caturday and tomorrow is Halloween so here we go…

One Day Til’ Halloween

There is one day left

until Halloween

and some of us are more anxious then others to get there.

Avana Street

RDP Thursday: THE BEDROOM WINDOW

My name is Helli Barcus and and I live all alone in a little house on a steep and rock strewn hill on Avana Street.

The houses on my street don’t have numbers by their doors and there isn’t even a sign to tell you that you are on Avana. It’s doesn’t matter. Nobody comes out here and as for my neighbors, we don’t talk to each other.

To coin a phrase, we’re dead to each other.

I have a Chestnut Tree just outside my bedroom window and when the wind blows the tree creaks and groans and scratches at my window. Sometimes I think that it wants in and sometimes I stand at the window and scratch back because sometimes,

I want out.

The houses on my street don’t have numbers by their doors and there isn’t even a sign to tell you that you are on Avana. It’s doesn’t matter. Nobody comes out here and as for my neighbors, we don’t talk to each other.

To coin a phrase, we’re dead to each other.

And we are pretty much dead to the rest of the world too.
