I Walk A Lonely Street

One of Elvis Presley’s most famous ( and my personal favorite song ) was inspired by a suicide note- the note read ” I walk a lonely street “.

That song is Heartbreak Hotel.

Before I had learned that story, I had always imagined that the Heartbreak Hotel was actually a song about a cemetery  and had said as much to my parents- I was about 9 years old at the time. Needless to say they were somewhat horrified I could have come up with such a weird idea- but lo and behold it turns out that I was on to something.

So let’s stroll up a few more years when I was in my forties and took a trip to New Orleans for Halloween. I took a tour of Saint Louis Cemetery Number one and the minute I went through the gates and started to walk down the streets I thought for sure I would see a bellhop around one corner and maybe I would see the faceless desk clerk dressed in black around the next corner.

Because in my bones  I knew I had found it… I was seeing it with my own eyes- the real life Heartbreak Hotel.

Although it’s always crowded
You still can find some room
For broken-hearted lovers
To cry there in the gloom
And be so, where they’ll be so lonely, baby
Well, they’re so lonely
They’ll be so lonely, they could die

I Am Mabel

Meet Olive and Mabel.

They are my spirit animals and today they had to sit in on an on line conference call which is what a lot of  people are doing now days- except for me. I still haven’t figured out how to do that.

Olive and Mabel are hip. They know how to do this.
