Yesterday I pulled out my new editions of the Mel Bay Guitar Method books, set up a practice area in my living room and started to get my hands and ear back in shape for playing guitar.

When I decided I wanted to play again, I knew my hands would be out of shape, I hadn’t read music for AGES and I was worried about my ear  ( in order to tune my guitar ). I decided to  go back to the Mel Bay beginner books because they’re basic and when I first learned guitar when I was 12, these were the books my music  teacher, Mr. Martin used. I built off of his lessons and I even delveloped great technique, so I thought I’d use those books again.

If you are wondering what it felt like to play simple exercises and whatit was like to go over notes and scales again after being a lead guitarist in rock bands- to be perfectly honest-

It was a lot of fun.

Four years ago I wanted to go back to playing my guitar and I just never got around to it.

At the time I thought it would be a good idea because of the timing.

Covid-19 hit and things were slowly being shutdown- everything was up in the air and I guess I thought it would be a good idea to have something else to focus on besides the fact that people were dying in record numbers.

Then Trump suggested the CDC look into injecting people with bleach and other people were saying  Covid-19 could be cured by taking horse dewormer medication ( an  antiparasitic drug called Ivermectin ) and at that point all I cared about was keeping my life as predictable as possible because we had entered the Twilight Zone.

I set my plans aside and until mid-June of this year I decided it was time to take my guitar back up.

I removed my acrylic nails last week so I could go back to playing the guitar.

Everyone has told me that it’s going to hurt a lot and that my real nails would never be the same again.

It only hurt a little ( I removed them myself, but I’ve been going twice a month to have them work on for over 10 years so it didn’t really hurt that much- I knew what to expect )

My real nails  were pretty healthy so the thing about them being paper thin and malformed wasn’t true. I figure that’s because I did take care of them, so they are actually the same as before so I suppose that’s good.

I knew I had to wait to let things toughen back up a bit before I started playing again and this weekend is THE WEEKEND.

When It Rains

Inspired by Weekly Prompts: GARDEN

Some people think that there is nothing more sad then when it rains during a funeral

and you can’t hear the service because all you can hear is the sound of the rain drops

hitting your umbrella.

Sadder then that is knowing that the rain will not feed or make anything live in this

regrettable garden.

I don’t feel that way.

I think the thought of it raining upon a cemetery when nobody

is there  to hold an umbrella over their heads

to  wish for bluer, gentle skies

and all the sleeping dead have to hear

are the sounds of the rain hitting the empty ground above them is the saddest thing of all.
