Is It Today Again?

RDP Monday: YADA YADA YADA

Photo by Kyle Dolan on Pexels.com

The air is still full of smoke

and Covid-19.

My well off friends and relatives

who sit in their back yards on padded lawn chairs and take pictures of the golden

sunsets and happy birds  singing from the trees

are proud of themselves

because

they are standing strong against

the poisoned winds that are pounding against everyone else’s door

relentlessly.

The rest of us  can see

that

the locks and seals around our windows and doors are failing.

The birds are not singing, those are sirens from miles away and the golden sunset is not

a

sunset.

The sky is on fire.

Yada Yada Yada.

Think happy thoughts and good things will come your way.

Just be a team player, grab those bootstraps and lift

and you too shall see the clear blue, germ free skies again.

Out In The Woods

RDP Sunday — WOODSY

Before Covid-19  and the fires and smoke came, I used to go out into the woods to hike and take pictures and soak up the inspiration.

Here are a few pictures from  the ‘before’ time.

The Scary Part Of The Story

Putting my Feet In The Dirt July Prompt #10 Regretful Happenings

I was watching the news a few days ago and one of the Mayors from Texas was talking about bringing in refrigerated trucks to act as temporary morgues- but the idea of morgues is not the scary part of this story.

The scary part of this story is how he descrirbed the trucks driving past a flea markert that was packed with people- needless to say there wasn’t any social distancing going on and face masks?

Not in Texas baby.

So just picture it- temporary morgues drive by a bunch of people who are talking to their friends, looking for treasures, , they are wheeling and dealing over dolls and tin signs and boxes of toys and tools and maybe talking about what to have for dinner and I’ll bet it was Sunny and hot that day and death is the farthest thing from their minds and you have to wonder-

who in that crowd may find themselves in one of those trucks wrapped in plastic and wearing one of those hospital gowns that tie in the back and the plastic name bracelet that the funeral director will cut off when they prep and dress you for that time when your family and friends say their good byes.

“Cooling Units” – whether they are in a funeral home or a hospital or a truck that was made to haul perishable freight all have one thing in common.

They are by design deathly quiet- except for the whisper and click you hear when the door shuts.

Idle Hands Need Love Too

RDP Friday – Lazy

The devil tempts men, but idle men tempt the devil.

Turkish Proverb

When I was put on Stand By and was off work for a month, I’d get these calls from people who said things like,

” I’ll bet you’re bored like me.”

Well.

No I wasn’t.

If I could write through the death of friends, family members and huge swaths of my life, being ‘bored’ wasn’t something that plagued me. No matter what, I could keep writing and posting at my blog.

Other times I’d get texts from other people who bemoaned the fact that they couldn’t get their hair done and that they looked like S%@T.

I wanted to text back, ” I wouldn’t worry about it. I don’t think anyone cares what your hair looks like. They’re to worried about their own hair to notice.”

And then I’d get instant messages about how Covid-19 was a ” Democrat Hoax.”

First off all, I wanted to say, you sound like a Bubba when you talk like that. The correct phrase is” Democratic Hoax ” and if I wanted to prank you it would involve eggs, toilet paper and electricity. Not some plot line from a lame Netflix movie.

But I wasn’t at full speed. I was sort of lazy myself. Bedeviling people requires commitment, attention to detail and mountains of hot crispy golden McDonalds french fries.

Lucky for us all I couldn’t get those french fries back in April.

But I can now.
