A Box Of Dolls

RDP Tuesday: TOYS

On my last trip to New Orleans I bought some Voodoo Dolls.

They weren’t the scary kind of Voodoo Dolls- I mean they looked scary but their purpose was to ward off bad spirits and the kind of spirits that follow them.

I loved my dolls because shortly after I got them good things happened like I got the most amazing puppy ever, a couple of toxic people in my life crashed and burned and I even lost weight. I started to really write again.

And then I moved.

When I moved I put them in one box, labeled it and set it next to me on the car seat.

What happened next is the sort of thing that happens when you move- something gets lost or broken and in this case what was lost was my box of dolls.

I went back to my old place, I dug through the trash in case they had been tossed out. I unpacked very single box and even looked in places where my box of dolls could have been put in the haste of moving.

I am sad to say that the box never turned up and I still go through totes and containers that I’ve looked through a million times for the past three years to no avail.

Sometimes I wonder what happened to my box of dolls and then I remember, they were designed to ward off evil spirits that might choose to bedevil me and I can’t help but to think maybe they are off doing that right now as I write this.

After all, things have been going pretty good recently.

Pretty good indeedy.

Remember Jemma

RDP Tuesday: ASK

Photo A.M. Moscoso

The next time you

wonder if you’re good enough at writing or singing or if you should speak out

I would ask you to consider my Granddaughter, Jemma.

We were at a Children’s Museum in Olympia, Washington and one of the interactive exhibits

was a stage with a toy mic, a curtain and at the side was a mixing board where the kids could run sound of

audiences cheering and clapping.

Jemma took to the stage and in front of a crowd of people she sang her song  ( ABC’s) and she tried to

project her voice over the sounds of the museum- kids playing at the other exhibits, laughing, talking because if you

noticed, the mics are only props.

She didn’t use that noise to hide her light under a bushel.

When she was done she exited the stage with flair.

I don’t know about you, but the next time I am doing something I love -I’m not going to ask if I should be doing this.

I’m going to remember Jemma taking the stage.

It’s Like This

RDP Monday: PROLIFIC

Bloubergstrand, Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa-Photographer Uknown

Each grain of sand

each droplet of water

each tide that makes it way to shore

weighed down, just a little by bone and ruined wood

polished on it’s way to shore when no one is really looking.

They all have a story to tell, a poem to share, a picture to paint

if you are willing to dive into their world

and listen to them

one by one

on your own and all alone.

I Still Wonder

RDP Monday: COLOSSAL

From the Colossus of Rhodes  to the statue of Zeus at Olympia, of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient world only one remains…

The Great Pyramid of Giza is all that is left of the Ancient Wonders.

Great Pyramid of Giza -The Last Remaining Wonder of the Ancient World

I don’t know about you, but when I was a kid I memorized the Seven Wonders and read every story I could find about them. I even wrote my own stories and vowed that one day I would visit the places where they once stood.

Well. You know. Maybe I will one day.

I’ve chosen pictures that I’ve liked from the New Wonders, not necessarily the image of the sites voted on- and I’ll explain why-

From what I understand there are now 7 new sights that have been declared The New Seven Wonders and though I don’t disagree that these new wonders are magnificent in their own right, I can’t help to feel that-

because

they’ve been logged, recorded, and their images have been used in political photo-ops, travel commercials and backdrops in countless movies

there isn’t a lot of room for ‘wonder’ to take place- which I guess is a little sad to me.

On the other hand, the two New Wonders that I’ve pictured above do have a little magic and maybe- if I’m lucky I’ll hear a story or two coming from their way.

After all, a million people voted  on these sights and made them our new Wonders and a million people can’t be wrong, can they?
