The Forever Ghost

RDP Monday: FLINTY

I used to walk, quietly, softly up the stairs to my room so as not to make a floorboard crack or moan

When I sat at the table for dinner with my family, I chewed slowly with my head down and I never looked up or met anyone’s gaze

If someone said my name, or called to me from another room would I back into a shadow until they went away. They only ever said my name a couple of times and I heard a sigh of relief when I didn’t answer ‘ I’m here. ‘

I haunted my family, when I was alive and not that I’m not alive I am doing the same to the people who sometimes live in our house.

I had so much practice you see. I am so good at what I do

I had a lifetime in practice in the art  of being dead.

Jemma and The Maiden

For RDP Thursday: WAVER

My Granddaughter Jemma is turning out to be my favorite person to explore new places with.

Her sense of adventure never wavers.

She checked for spikes before she walked in.

Jemma checked out the front of the paintings ( one is made of beans and the other buttons ) before she made her ‘faces’.

I think she did a great job!

Jemma saw the skeleton, the coffins, the pictures of dead people and when I asked her for a spooky face she gave me two- one is in black and white and in another post. This one is in color and I like it because she leaned into the coffins.

That’s my girl!

You would have seen a figure

a regal form in black

wandering among the gravestones

with her eyes firmly latched

on the sights

and sounds

below her feet.

RDP Wednesday: REGAL

Devil’s Luck

ANDREW WYETH

I guess it sounds sad- I missed Halloween because I was sick.

I got home from work, set out a bowl of candy and went to sleep early. I didn’t even dress Hamish up.

I was in a haze- and not in a good Autumn evening way.

But here’s the thing:

I had just got back from Wisconsin and got celebrate Halloween last week ( the town my Granddaughters live in does events and trick or treating early)

So I went to my Granddaughters Elementary school for their Halloween Dance, the next day we did more Halloween Events and to top it off we went on a hayride and did some trick or treating:

The morning I left for Wisconsin, the plane took off on time, we got in a few minutes early and lo and behold my luggage popped up on the carousel just as I stepped off of the escalator.

Later that evening I found out that I was beyond lucky because that afternoon there were IT issues and slow downs. Had I taken off a couple of hours later, I wouldn’t have been so lucky.

In fact I’d have been SOL.

The same thing happened when I flew back to Seattle. My plane landed on time, my luggage was waiting for me- but when looked up on the board I saw to check what time it was – in very big red letters ” delayed ” started  popping up  next to several flights.

I can’t help but to feel that having a bad cold and spending the weekend in bed may not have been such a bad thing, when I consider that I really did have the luck of the Devil this Halloween.
