Tag You’re It ( again)

For RDP Monday: TAG

Deciding what to be for Halloween was a very big thing in my family.

We had our share of Princesses and Astronauts and monsters – of course.

But every year me and my cousins would spend hours on the phone ( and by on the phones I mean landlines ) because one of us had to give up our plastic mask and plastic Halloween costume ( which we dearly loved ) in order to dress up as-

Death.

Someone had to take the role on because let’s face WE KNEW as hardcore Halloween devotees Death needed to have a presence at Halloween and it usually fell to me or my eldest cousin to take it on-not that we wanted to do it- because as far as costumes went Death wore a boring costume and those robes were heavy but we could never come up with a good argument to get out of it.

After being tagged, we would console ourselves with the knowledge we got to carry a big scary looking scythe that we had to drag alone the ground with one hand  while trying to balance our treat bag with the other and we knew that at least we would look kind of frightening as we struggled from house to house.

So off and on over the years my Mom would ask me ( or my Aunt would ask my Cousin )

what we were going to be for Halloween and we would sadly reply:

” Death. ”

” Oh. So you got the short straw. Well maybe next year you’ll get to dress up for Halloween instead of not getting to dress up. ”

” Maybe ” we would say ” maybe. “

Luna Is Here!

Hey everyone!

Meet my newly minted Granddaughter Luna….

My eldest granddaughter Jemma is absolutely thrilled to be a big sister!

March 9th, 2018- my son and Jemma- Luna’s big sister-  on her first day in this world:

September 9,2025 Luna Moscoso and her brand new Daddy!

I am buzzing because I was up all night thinking about Luna and the great life she is going to have with her family.  She is so wanted and so welcomed into this world.

My nerves are a little shaky and I am so tired, but in this case that is OK!

RDP Tuesday: Nerves

The Cloudless Sky

RDP Wednesday: Downpour

When I was a little girl, my Mom found me outside in our front yard.

I was looking up into a blue cloudless sky and I was laughing.

” What are you looking at?” my Mom asked me.

” The sky is raining ghosts. ” I told her.

My Mother said that she didn’t see any ghosts and I told her,

” That’s ok.” I reassured my Mom “They can see you.”

Signed, Your Father

Artist Unknown

The note, written on smooth white lined paper read and tacked to my door read:

“Will you meet me at theHouse on the corner?”

It was signed ” your Father.”

I pried the tack up and flicked it over my porch railing and into a carpet of Saint John’s Wort that my Father hand planted around our home shortly after I was born.

Oh well Father, I thought- hope springs eternal-just like your pretty yellow flowers because in that moment I considered making the walk to theHouse on the corner- as far as  houses go, it is a good one.

There are skeletons in the basement, a noose hanging from the rafter in the attic, and there is something that slithers it’s way from under the bed in the master bedroom into the wardrobe with the cracked mirror when it thinks nobody is watching.

I crumpled up the note and dropped it at my feet.

No.

No I don’t think so. I don’t think I’ll be going to the haunted house on the corner- it’s to crowded you see  and I like the house I am haunting now just fine.
