Snoopy? Siriusly?

RDP Friday: DOG DAYS

Canis Major as depicted on the Manuchihr Globe made in Mashhad 1632-33 AD. Adilnor

The brightest star(s) in our night sky is the Dog Star and in some cultures it’s appearance heralded the Dog Days of Summer  ( the Greeks )  the Polynesians knew Winter was on it’s way (yay) the Ancient  Egyptians centered their calender on Sirius and Sumerians and Babylonians had feasts and celebrations when Sirius made it’s appearance in the night sky.

Sirius maybe a star among a Universe chocked full of starts, but the fact that it’s also known as the Dog Star is perfect-  the Cherokee called the Dog Star ” The guardian of the Path of Souls,Sirius as I have pointed out  invokes feelings of joy and celebration- even apprehension.

Dogs, like Sirius shine as bright as anything in the Universe.

Fight me on that because I will die on that hill to defend  that fact.

Along with Mars being my favorite planet in our Solar System ( the only planet in our system inhabited by robots -FYI) the Dog Star has always enchanted me. And in case you are curious, when I first learned about the Dog Star- for reasons that only my five year old brain could understand- I called it the Snoopy Star.

I still think of it that way.

I chose to post this Snoopy picture because Sirius is actually two stars- so here you go Sirirus A and B- other wise knows ans Snoopy and Woodstock.

:::281 Words in Six Minutes:::

Ludicrous Catwalk Fashions- Photographer Unknown

In just six minutes could I tell you about Mila, the prettiest, hippest, the most clever girl in the entire world?

I am going to try.

Mila’s got talent, she’s got charm, she worships her Aunt who smokes to much and drinks to much and writes poetry and back in the day got into a car chase that ended up with jail time- well. Not for her because her Daddy had money.

Mila  lives for the day she will be in a car chase that ends up in jail time for everyone except her- of course.

Her Daddy has money too.

Mila  likes to dance and she likes to sing and she is good at both things, but she would much rather hang out in bathrooms at the coolest night clubs in town where she would take selfies of herself and her friends with their tongues hanging out from between her red, sometimes pink lipsticked lips.

Most of the time when Mila tortures herself as she tries to figure out what to wear that day because she is slim and she has masses of long (sometimes ) blond hair slung over one shoulder and in Sophia’s world everything must be pretty and perfect and sexy and sassy.

There is no place in Mila’s world for ugliness.

That is why Mila wraps herself in plastic, why she keeps all of her doors  locked and why the curtains in her bedroom are always pulled closed

and she never leaves her bedroom no matter how long and how loud her parents beg her to come out.

Mila. Never. Leaves. Her room.

Ever.
