Writober: Cryptids
From my collection:
These are vintage photos of Female Students in an anatomy class.
They are posed with the cadavers they studied, and unlike some of the pictures I’ve seen of their male counterparts they did not dress up the cadavers and stick cigars in their mouths.
Instead, they are looking at their specimens with serious and studious expressions on their faces and in some cases the female students are smiling right into the camera.
I don’t know why I thought of mermaids when I thought about these pictures, but when I remember that in some folklore Mermaids were not out their trying to seduce sailors.
They were out there making corpses.
So here you go my friends, meet the landed Mermaid Society.

What an interesting idea that mermaids came on land to study anatomy. Love it.
I wanted to add something to the dark story of the Mermaids and this is pretty dark!
Glad you loved it.
Looks like these corpses had seen better days!
That’s for sure.
I had to assist on some PM’s back when. Even well kept morgues had a certain odor about them…no thanks.
I didn’t mind it after awhile. But I did learn to put a chair next to the door in my embalming room so that if someone felt woozy they could sit down fast.
