I Literally Died

I have a love/ hate relationship with the word literally.

When most people use it ( yeah, except for YOU smarty pants ) they say things like, ” it was so funny/weird/stupid  that I LITERALLY died.

Saying you ‘literally died ‘ means exactly that- you heard something so funny/weird/stupid  that  it killed you and because of that you end up in a cooling unit in a morgue and then a funeral home and you were embalmed or cremated or set out in  the elements in a body farm where Forensic Anthropologists study the death process.

On one hand, it makes me cringe when the word ‘literally’ is misused.

On  the other hand- the image that pops into my head when someone says, ” I literally died ” amuses me- a lot.

The One and True GOAT

GOAT may stand for ” Greatest of All Time ” and people were loving to use it all over social media, but on the day one of my neighbors- she’s kind of a boozy chain smoking troll- had her niece visiting her and we were all out at the dog park, her niece says to me that her Aunt is THE GOAT, I decided that word has to go.

Smoky The Troll’s niece really adores her Aunt. I don’t know. She’s probably pen pals with inmates in prison too. She’s got that vibe.

Anyway about a week before her visit, I watched her Aunt back her car into a pole that held up the roof on an outdoor car park roof and when people came running out because their cars were now trapped under a roof she told the to ” Go Eff themselves. It would be handled. “

Yeah. She was mad because she knew she was wrong, but damn it to Hell, she was going to make all of those people very sorry she was wrong and that they had the nerve to point it out. I mean, she was nasty weeks later to those people. Mostly she laughed at them for ‘getting so bent out of shape.

After that, I decided that the only truly GOAT of all Goats is Black Phillip ( real name Charlie )

” Black Phillip “
From the film The Witch

Charlie aka Black Phillip is THE GOAT. He is the greatest goat of all time and everyone else pales in comparison.

Time to retire the acronym “GOAT”.

Let’s Erase This One

Prompt: If you could erase a word, what would it be?

I used to hang out with this friend who, took things like the arts and human rights  and Women’s issues very,  very seriously.

So I was surprised when she used this word on more then one occasion:

Rapey.

It’s a real word and it shows up in the Urban dictionary.

She would say she didn’t like a song because it was ” kind of rapey ” and she didn’t like movies because the scenes were a little to ” rapey “.  She would also describe   the waiter, or the delivery guy or guys she had a low opinion of she would describe as ” kind of rapey ”

That word really got under my skin because it reminded me about the times I’ve heard parents give nicknames to body parts because they thought their child was to young to use words like ” Vagina ” or ” Penis “.

I get why parents do that with little kids, but I think that when a grown woman uses a word like ” Rapey ” in conversations with other adults I have to wonder if she is doing it for the same reason- that she views the people she is talking to as not being quite ready for Prime Time Adult conversations.

That’s the reason if I could  erase a word, it would be ” Rapey “.
