Halloween Wishes

Will any super heroes, super villians

or princesses from the Sea

knock on my door hold out their bags

and cry out Trick or Treat?

My dog is dressed in a pirate hat

my cat is sporting gargoyle’s wings

and I am dressed up like a ghost

we’re ready for Halloween.

My Jack O Lantern is lit

my trees are hung with bones

my demons are in the attic

my zombies are lurking  downstairs.

We’re all eagerly  waiting

for someone to appear

to knock on our door

so that we will know-

Dinner is served.

Do Not Disturb

There are no monsters

under my bed

they aren’t hiding in my closets

they’re not buried in my shed

There are no ghosts

rattling their chains

up in my attic

moaning in pain

There are no witches

knocking at my door

there are no devils in my garden

trying to steal my soul

We all live nicely

inside of my head

things are pretty quiet here

now that I’m dead.

Almost There

In fourteen days

It’s Halloween

and all of the Crows will fly

into the night

among the graves

the ruined ones, the tended ones,

the secret ones

unmarked but not forgotten.

The Crows

will ferry the dead

with dark care

one by one

silent against the night

until they reach our homes.

Will you answer

I wonder

if one tries you locks

and gently knocks

upon your windows ands doors?

No. Don’t Do It Anita!!!!

I think this year for Halloween

I will not be dreary, dark or mean.

I think this year

I will

try to have fun

I’ll bake some cookies, carve some pumpkins

and only hang glittery, family friendly  decorations.

I think this year for Halloween

I will not raise the dead,

curse the living

or cut off anybody’s head.

I think this year for Halloween

I’ll be like everyone else

who lives on my street.

I will be a folksy

conservative and quiet in both thought and deed

because nothing is as terrifying

as  being normal

to me.
