Start Early Krampus!

Dear Krampus

Why wait until Christmas to pay us a visit?

As you know, we are dealing with Covid-19 and some of us are acting responsibly.

Some of us were laid off from work but we aren’t reaching for guns and ropes and threating elected officials to let us get back to getting tattoos and facials and expecting restaurant staff to risk their lives to serve us food and coffee and cheesecake-OR ELSE.

We aren’t crowding to beaches because we might pick up a virus that could kill someone who lives next door to us, or someone in our family.

However some of us are doing ALL of those things- and like every spoiled brat you have ever stuffed into a sack people are doing these things because they don’t want to be told ” No” and the temper tantrums that are being thrown could be more serious then those in the past.

Given that you have a bumper crop of brats of all sizes and ages you might want to start early this year. I wouldn’t want you to get frazzled.

Sincerely Yours

AMM

The Obstinate Cat

Ragtag Daily Prompt Thursday: Abstract in Black and White

                           ( sort of )

Artist: Wassily Kandinsky

If I wanted to tell the story

about the world as it is in this moment

compared to the one I came from

and the one I am going to end up living in

a year or so from now,

I think I  would tell it in fragments

a smile here

a betrayal there

a nightmare that stayed with me long after I woke up and started my day.

Bad jokes, kind gestures, Mozart, Robert Johnson and Abba made my house a home

walking my dog up hills, why are there so many half eaten hamburgers at the side of the road?

It’s not hard to be polite in line if you have to stand

six feet away from someone

now we can smirk or grimace because nobody can see the

lower half of your face or hear what you say under your breath.

Life was a completed puzzle that the obstinate cats of the world

shoved off the table

piece by piece

to the floor

but not before they ate that one piece that goes in the middle

that one piece that made it all make sense

That’s the story I would tell.

::: Below are some portraits by Wassily Kandinsky that I spent some time looking at before I wrote today’s piece:::

The Kitchen In The Woods

RDP Wednesday – VISUAL

I remember

a small cool room at the back of the house

encased in smooth plaster walls turned beige with age.

Grainy yellow light filtered through a row of dusty windows.

Shelves lined with ceramic cannisters decorated with  labels of  grapes and apples rolling pins and sunflowers.

Swollen tin cans entombed in darkness behind tall cupboard doors

A light green cake plate waiting to be fed  sits upon a wobbly splintered wooden  table surrounded  by four worn out mismatched kitchen chairs

Hanging from the wall, next to the black iron stove

a row of well sharpened, shiny  knives

twinkle like starlight on a clear cold winter night.

My Grandmother’s kitchen

in

her house in the woods.

Reality Plays At Normal

Ragtag Daily Prompt Thursday: Lifes Allusions

Societies New Normal:

Toilet Paper Hoarding.

My New Normal:

Hoarding Red Baron Mini Pizzas.

Societies New Normal:

Social Distancing.

My New Normal:

Pretending like I hate social distancing.

Societies New Normal:

Wearing Face Masks.

My New Normal:

Not having to fight he urge to wear a Plague mask anymore.

My new normal sort of mirrors the new normal around me but it’s funny because it feels like I’m only pretending that it’s ‘new’ to me.

That’s’ probably sad  but  I am happy  that at last I may at long last –

fit in.
