Over the year I have watched my Party redefine themselves as and today become:
a costly ornamental building with no practical purpose, especially a tower or mock-Gothic ruin built in a large garden or park
On a local level The First Legislative Democrats, embraced hypocrisy, they cyberbullied members who did not agree with them and they indulged in the worst sort of personal attacks on their own candidates. They did this while crying, ” Revolution ” when they should have just cried ‘ Me! It’s All About ME!”
If you think that the Republican Party has a corner on this odious behavior, you’re wrong.
Anyone can act with folly, anyone can build a folly.
Just ask the Snohomish County Democrats.
Today they followed the First Legislative District straight into the ditch.
I can’t imagine calling up a speaker that you invited to share an important message and life experience(s) and saying:
Oh by the way, we have to cancel. There are a bunch of people who are mourning the loss of the White House and we are going to let them talk about how they feel.
Never mind the person who was slated to speak could have done a lot to make a lot of people who had no idea they ( oh yes they ) had just been marginalized by people ” who looked like them” and were already feeling betrayed and intimated ( and they had every reason too feel that way).
In that moment that group of predominately white suburban progressives had an experience they could have shared with someone that was not from their side of the fence, for that moment they stood on common ground with a member of another community (which is what they work hard to do ) and the decision in that moment to run back into the proverbial ivory tower and weep.
This reaction shows that there is a lot of work to be done not in just understanding how a crude buffoon who brags about grabbing women by their P*&^% got into the White House but how it was so many people thought that it was okay.
I think this action by The Chair is the beginning of understanding how that happened.
It’s a shame that when there was a chance for us to do right by each other, the action of one person dirtied that chance up.
Guy Palumbo IS a charter school funded candidate- and what he will HAVE to do to the families ( like Mindie’s and a lot of my other friends with children in our Public Schools and our Teachers ) to show his ‘gratitude’ for receiving this massive amount of funding to his campaign will be devastating to our community.
Raising our taxes and shipping our funds to Olympia will only be the beginning of what Palumbo will have to do to ‘work off’ his campaign ‘contributions’ from the groups who wrote him checks.
It’s a fact, Charter Schools have put a massive down payment on Guy Palumbo and we in the First Legislative District must not allow ourselves to be responsible for paying off the balance.
Just because he is running as a Democrat ( Guy Palumbo as everything except for Dog Catcher and maybe the Ice Cream Man ) does not mean he is
It would appear that some of Guy Palumbo’s supporters are concerned because Guy Palumbo has been called out for lying about his contribution to the Transportation Package Rep Moscoso actually did the work on.
Once again his campaign is coining phrases like Guy being one of ” little people” who wrote letters to Olympia just to remind you who the big bad Latino is- I guess they have to have one more good hard blow on that dog whistle. Guy Palumbo just can’t help himself. One could say that resorting to character and cultural assassination is what happened during a nasty campaign season- but the perplexing things is WHY Palumbo still needs to do that to Rep Moscoso.
So I will bring up a couple of points- they are worth mentioning because they demonstrate the same lack of respect for my family that Palumbo ran on, but that he is clearly patronizing and showing a lack of respect to the Voters by his continued attack on their intelligence.
Guy Palumbo did spend time in Olympia-only he hung out at hearings for Education ( literally, he stood in the back of the room and played on his phone ) Guy Palumbo had the chance to be at Transportation hearings, but he chose NOT to.
Considering his campaign was funded by Charter Schools in the Primary one can see why
And let’s be clear, Guy didn’t run on being the Leader who mobilized a community, he didn’t even MENTION that he was a part of a letter writing campaign.
This is how he sold HIMSELF
From Representative Luis Moscoso’s FB page:
Guy Palumbo never once contacted me about his concerns regarding this issue. Sen. Hobbs & Sen. Liias, Minority Ranking Member and Asst. Minority Ranking Member, both contacted me as Co-Vice Chair of the House Transportation Committee to introduce legislation to improve SR 522 after it was cut from the original Senate Budget. I submitted the request and it was added to the final budget because of my effort. The Legislature has the documents to prove it. I corrected Guy months ago about this in front of the Seattle Times interview panel when he tried take credit for my work then. Rep. Judy Clibborn also said he was “wrong” in her Everett Herald LTE, July 8, 2016. (http://www.heraldnet.com/…/palumbo-wrong-about-opponents-t…/)
My District has voted for the Democrats- and for good reason- they were solid candidates.
I am sure that if Guy Palumbo were to go to Olympia the only person he will be serving is himself- he has a proven track record of doing exactly that.
We want to hear that our candidates and electeds are willing to reach across the aisle to make things work for our state, for our country. It shows that they are willing to be respectful, reasonable and that they care willing to set aside personal politics for what is best for the communities they lead.
We as voters should be willing to do the same when casting our votes for candidates to office.
In this election a member of my family- Representative Luis Moscoso ran for State Senate in Washington for the First Legislative district. His challenger was Guy Palumbo who can only be described as a Political Opportunist as opposed to the Democrat that he claims to be.
Guy ran a smear campaign that depicted Luis and our sons as men who were groomed to beat women because as the message went it was ‘cultural’ ( Luis and our sons are Latino ). You can read my letter about the libelous campaign Palumbo benefited from as it appeared in the Herald HERE.
One of Guy’s other twisted tactics was to run on Luis’ fine record by claiming to be an expert in the fields Luis has actually worked in and then blasted Luis for not fixing every single problem we face in Olympia on the very same record Guy proudly claimed as his own.
Guy also put forward that Luis outright lied about his degree from the University of Iowa in the Voter’s Guide.
What most people didn’t know was that the person who sent it through to the voter’s guide despite our instructions that it needed to be corrected, was our consultant.
We fired that consultant after the election.
He works for Guy Palumbo now.
Today in the mail I received Palumbo’s flyer- and in it is an outright lie about Palumbo’s ‘expertise’ in transportation:
Guy’s letter writing campaign as stated in this ad didn’t secure anything- the bills Luis worked on passing them DID and what should be made clear here is that in no time did Guy ever contact Luis’ office (As the Vice Chair for Transportation who lives in Guy’s district that should have been Guy’s first stop in pushing his letter writing campaign AT LEAST). At no time did Guy show up and speak at hearings ( which is something any concerned citizen who is able to attend can do ).
However credit given where credit is due: Palumbo did give a presentation on transportation to our Legislative District.
That’s not a problem- the problem is when you imply it was your work or that you played a part in the work when you did not.
(See Article ” Palumbo Wrong About Opponent’s Transportation Record ” HERE)
In addition, Guy has touted his endorsement by ” Public School Employees” to further muddy the waters in the hope that voters will think that he as a candidate who was funded by Charter School PAC money and did not NOT receive an endorsement by the Teachers Union, is somehow endorsed by them now.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
The Public School Employees are a separate body from WEA.
That’s called campaign messageing:Palumbo Style.
This ad and its falsehoods and half-truths was donated to Guy’s campaign by the Washington State Democratic Central Committee.
This is the party that me and my family have supported. This is the party were Luis served as Secretary and where I served as President for a women’s political group. We are paid members of the First LD Democrats. On behalf of Democrats in my state- I could not be more ashamed they have played a part in Palumbo’s campaign.
So in this race- and a few others- I am breaking ranks with my party and this is why:
In the past I have been able to rely on my party to help guide me through the voting process. They were a good resource and for the most part they fielded great candidates. Their support of Palumbo, that single endorsement has made it clear to me that they are more concerned with how many seats they can get then they are with character and integrity in the candidates that they support..
As a Democrat who has held various positions in the party I could not be more concerned with the road they have chosen to take for the likes of Guy Palumbo- the candidate whose claims to have accomplished things in Olympia already but whose record of that great work can’t be verified.
My guess is because the record he claims to own is not under his name.
Guy Palumbo’s campaign practice of using dog whistles to scare voters to his side is a cheap campaign strategy and Palumbo has mastered its use:
Don’t vote for Luis because all Latino men are culturally inclined to beat women. SO DON’T VOTE FOR HIM LADIES.
Don’t vote for my Republican challenger because Republicans hate LGBTQ. SO COME OVER HERE PROGRESSIVES.
But in the end Guy Palumbo has to play this cheap stunt because the fact is, Palumbo has nothing of substance to offer the voters in this district.
Palumbo’s opponent Mindie Wirth does have character, integrity. She has great respect for ALL of the people she wants to serve. I would urge voters to consider supporting her as I firmly believe that she is willing to put the needs of the District above that of her Party and herself.
It’s a great quality and one that is needed now more then ever.
