Dry Bones

Word of The Day: United

Engraving of “The Vision of The Valley of The Dry Bones” by Gustave Doré

Strip flesh from muscle,

strip muscle from bone

tear bone from bone

and leave them to rot

In the Valley of The Dry Bones

a sunless place

where black acrid clouds cover the sky

and it never rains

where we used to be one

United

with ourselves, with each other

Used. To. Be.

In another dream

far away from here.

If I am going to burn

because I am not good enough

pure enough

smart enough

to see and hear

what I am supposed

to think and feel

defined by rules

and deeds

penned by another’s hand

I will gladly strike the match

and go with the flames

free to run, free to walk, free to fly

free to be me, free to be a dream, free to sleep

free to think

and breathe.

You can stand there.

You can watch me burn,  see by my light

and wait for the darkness to take you

back.
