Experience Writing Halloween Photography prompt: Take a picture of a bat, or bats, or something batty.
Photography technique: Turn something upside down.
These pictures are of the warehouse I managed for over 20 years, shortly after it was remodeled back in the ’80s. By the time I came along, it was spooky-looking and had character.
I was glad I missed this part of my warehouse’s life because it looked sterile and boring. In these old photographs, rows of pristine, uniform ceiling fixtures stretch endlessly across pale concrete, casting an overly neat, clinical glow.
However, I discovered that if I turned these pictures upside down and made things look a little batty, I could say—“Oh yes! There you are!” Suddenly, those rigid lines of light transform into the eerie, cavernous silhouettes and give this sterile room back the dark soul it was meant to have.
