The Winds of Neptune

RDP SATURDAY: CLOISTERED

It might sound strange, but at this exact moment in time if I had the chance I would pack up my dog and my laptop and head for the most remote, silent and slightly spooky monastery I could find.

Why?

You would think that with everyone feeling cloistered against their will that the world would be quiet but it’s not.

There is enough moaning and groaning and wails of despair to drown out the sounds of the most powerful hurricane force winds in the solar system- which happen to be tearing around Neptune at over 750 miles an hour

Neptune, the eighth and farthest planet from the sun, has the strongest winds in the solar system. At high altitudes speeds can exceed 1,100 mph. That is 1.5 times faster than the speed of sound

In other words, it’s just to noisy and I would like just a minute, just a second to be able to take a breath- instead of feeling like the air is being sucked out of my lungs.

I used to think that I could write under any condition like people walking in and out of my work area, or ringing phones and pinging microwave ovens and maybe I still can.

But I think the problem is, there is so much emotion out there and fear and anger- which I write about- that it feels like white noise and I’m having trouble filtering in all out to maybe capturing one or two experiences.

I’d like to take in some atmosphere, taste the world, experience it instead of feeling like I’m being squeezed out of it like toothpaste being forced through the tube.

I remember it, like it was only just a few months ago

that I could hop in my car

catch a plane

buy a ticket on a train and a ride across the country

without a second thought.

I just packed up and went into the wilderness without a care in the world.

Has it been forever

since I’ve been lost in the wilderness

between these four walls

where it’s always midnight

and the Red Plague

has held sway over us all?

Sorry, I Missed You

Do I miss seeing crowded streets full of slack jawed zombies staring into their phones?

No I don’t.

Do I miss the acrid smell of car exhaust, heavily perfumed bodies sweating coffee from their pores?

No. Not even a little.

Do I miss being pushed and shoved on my way to the train? Do I miss stepping over pools of human urine and having to jump out of the way of bicyclist screeching ‘behind you’ as they tear down the sidewalks to somewhere really very important.

Like the Fro-Yo place on the corner.

That’s a big NO.

Do I miss the taste of fast food, slow food served at a sit down restaurant where your choice is something beef related and gluten free chocolate cake for desert and the unwelcomed taste of cherry flavored vape from the guy in the man bun that I always end up behind in one line or another.

That’s a HELL NO.

So why do I wonder when my smelly, confusing world will all come back- and most of all…

why do I hope it comes back exactly as it was before.

Ragtag Daily Prompt Thursday: Like a Circle in a Spiral

Do you know what I was looking forward to when my LEAST favorite month of the year ( well, I hate July and I despise August too, but I digress ) rolled in back in 2019?

I was super excited because October was only four months away and then WINTER would show up.

Oh those were simpler times.

This year I’m super excited because our stay at home order expires on May 31st and it’s not going to be extended.

Of course, it doesn’t really change anything because the Virus is still out there and things are going to slowly open up but I hate shopping – so I don’t care about that but some people will get back to work so it isn’t a bad or meaningless thing at all.

I just wish I was as excited for October as I normally am.

I guess I’ll have to find other ways to cheer my favorite month on.

Hell, I’m suppose to be creative so I guess I better hop to it- right? I mean, it’s not like Autumn can be cancelled. Can it?
