Lunch Time

Inspired by Prompt: OLWG#418- Just below Alamo Bay

There is a dock at Alamo Bay whose pilings are covered with barnacles and green slime, is splashed and bathed in the fetid waters of non-stop and the air at the Pier

smells like one of the garbage trains that passes through town twice a day.

But the Dock at Alama Bay, whose official name in Pier 64

isn’t famous for it’s smell, or the train that  jumped the tracks in 1910 and ended up in the Bay.

I know this story because I haunt that dock- I like to go  up to take my lunch there every Wednesday and Friday, rain or shine  the Pier is my home away from home.

First of all,  let’s talk about the train at the bottom of the Bay. The train stopped being a train and became a tomb at 6:43 am on November 5th, 1910  when it sank to the bottom of the Bay.

In life it had been a circus train and all of the animals were trapped in their cages – tigers, lions and an Elephant named Flora- the engineer,  the circus performers and the world famous Magician The Amazing Benadanti ( who was an Escape Artist of all things )were trapped in their cars and they  are all still  down there, at least that is what people say because none of the animals or the people ever floated up and washed ashore which is what happens when such a tragedy strikes.

But years and years after- and to this very day  ( which is May 5, 2025 ) someone standing on the dock will look down into the water because they will hear a thump, sometimes a knock  sometimes they look down because they feel like they need too and they always see

Shoes.

Sometimes it’s one shoe, sometimes there are a half dozen matching shoes and sometimes they don’t match, but what you can see right away is that the shoes aren’t old.

They aren’t covered with slime or seaweed. The shoes are always newish looking.

But what they all have in common is one thing.

There are feet in those shoes.

I will tell you a secret about something else that is there, just below the cold, fetid water of Alamo Bay- sometimes you can hear a growl, sometimes you can hear metal grinding against metal and when you do it’s probably best to step back from the railing and  I’d advise you watch your feet as you do.

The Ice Storm

Funny story. Years ago I posted this little story about something that happened a little ways from where I lived.
It involved ICE Agents, Homeland Security and someone who called himself ” Officer Friendly”
Officer Friendly trolled my blog and tried to leave his stupid misspelled on purpose comments. still have the hard copies with that info. In case your’re curious I know he was ACTUALLY in law enforcement because I had a thing called Site Meter and LOL it gave me  his IP addresses and  his never  published comments. I still have the hard copies with that info.
Anyway Officer Friendly was mad because I wouldn’t post his comments ( other blogs he had trolled over this story DID) . I mean. I didn’t have too publish what he said. Plus at the time my blog was full of short stories and pictures of David Tennant so NO I didn’t want this tool’s spew in there.
Officer Friendly sat behind me with his gun at a community meeting   about the Ice Agents, and at that meeting someone from the City Council told the press where I lived and I learned that the world is full of effing cowards. The most progressive Democrats both elected and non-elected were scared shitless about what was going on at my little blog and that includes my Congressman.
So I was on my OWN. They wouldn’t have spit on me if I was on fire to put out the fire  and trust me, that’s what I felt like was happening. But these Democrats were scared.Do you get it? THEY were scared.
I thought we all learned something back then.
But guess what. here I am watching the same shit happen on steroids and not only are bloggers being targeted, so is the media. Upside, since then I’ve gotten better at writing, I know WAY more about politics then I used to and I have zero fucks left to give. So I’m going wade into the issue here. I guess I’ll go ahead and talk about this because the issue never went away- it only got bigger and much, much worse.
I think I’ll be writing about that soon- and for giggles I’ll be posting the trackers showing DHS trolling my blog. Did you know their servers were in Kansas? Now you do.
ORIGINAL POST HERE

ICE agents set up at least two checkpoints on  streets in Lynwood last night around 11pm.

They arrested at least 6 Latino  men.

Legal observers spotted white vans unmarked at the Lynwood Police
Department (this coincides with the reports we have from witnesses). We are
going to continue with our plans to monitor in Lynwood in the mornings the
next couple days but now at mainly at the Police Department.

( from an action alert )

Before I left for work this morning I checked my wallet to make sure I had a copy of my Social Security Card, a pay stub and a copy of my birth certificate.

Why?

Because the ICE Men are staying at the Hotel down the street from where I live and I look Latina- I’m Filipina but I figure to these guys we all look the same.

And then I thought…you know what, bite me.

Bite my multicultural backside

And I left it all at home.

Bastards.

FOWC: TALK

Absent

I have an theory about why I have been so distracted and absent minded and why it is that I just don’t feel like writing.

I think it’s because inside of my head is such a dark place right now that NOTHING wants to live in there.

Does It Ever Snow There?

WP Prompt: What Olympic sports do you enjoy watching the most?

Back in 1988 I went over to my Mom and Dad’s to look for snacks or probably use their washer and dryer.

When I walked in, my Mom was nearly in tears. I asked her what was wrong and she said that ‘her Bobsled team’ had crashed and were not going to place in the Olympics.

I was puzzled. If my Mom had been a drinker I could have chalked her talk about Bobsled racing to wine or something, but I was really confused. Olympics? Since when did she care about the Olympics,  let along bobsled teams?

I said I was sorry her team was out and then I went to her kitchen in search of sustenance, because even though I was about 23 and had been living on my own for few years, I hadn’t got the art of shopping for  groceries down yet.

I went back to my place (after doing my laundry ) and turned on the tv and then I saw the news that the Jamaican Bobsled had crashed and were out of the running for ‘the Gold’.

It took me a moment. Jamaica had a Bobsled team and my Mom was pulling for them?

My Mom’s family is from Hawaii and I know this much about living in the tropics- nobody ice skates, sleds or builds snowmen in places like Hawaii or Jamaica. But really? A Bobsled team.

Well. Why not I thought. Why the heck not.

You need to know this about my Mom. If she backs a team, she is all in. Back when the Seattle Mariners were not exactly a stellar team and you could buy their swag in bulk or free tickets to t heir  game  with a purchase of your favorite burger or soft drink- she was a hardcore fan. She got teased, she got ribbed and in the end LOL she got to claim to be a real fan who stuck with the team through thick and thin and the ‘new fans’ had zero cred it her opinion,

I’m not sure how the Jamaican Bobsled team showed up on her radar but she was on their team 1000% and in case you’re curious- she was exactly crazy about the movie. Don’t ask me why.

My Mom still follows the Jamaican Bobsled Team. She loves that team.

I haven’t asked her why. I feel like it would spoil the mystery. But I have to admit, when the Winter Games roll around now I google

Jamaica Bobsled Team.
