Take It For The Team

I have written at great length about the negative, hateful and personal attacks that Guy Palumbo waged against my family in seeking election to become Washington State  Senator for the First Legislative District.

Its an attack his supporters feel necessary to still wage despite the fact Luis is not running against Palumbo now.

Regardless of that fact, recently at a political meeting one of Palumbo’s supporters ( who also is a State Committee Man for our District)was saying “Moscoso needs to stop beating women”

Palumbo for his own special reasons has chosen to continue to spread these libelous claims. Perhaps he feels it is necessary to diminish Luis in order to elevate his own standing.

As it stands, Palumbo’s character and integrity is being questioned now and wherever he ends up after November 8th it will continue to be questioned.

I am sure that most of this bile is rising up in the throats of Palumbo’s ‘supporters’  because our family did not take to our knee for Palumbo and joyfuly endorse and work to seeing him be elected.

This is the mindset that we’ve been faced with by a few party loyalists who apparently care more about gaining a seat then who is sitting in it.
Again my family who as individuals are still having to deal with Palumbo’s Dirty Campaign tactics are being called upon again to “take it for the team” by a  Palumbo Supporter:

Rep. Luis Moscoso Responds to the above comment:

It’s amazing that anyone would consider my refusal to support Guy Palumbo as a “protest vote” or a “grudge.” Guy Palumbo took the 1st LD Democratic Senate Primary into the gutter with his scurrilous rumors about me and my extended family.

As to concerns about the “policies actually at stake” – when were they ever truly addressed? There was no candidate debate or forum. Just lies – yes, “LIES” – by Palumbo, his LD supporters and his Charter School PAC financiers.

My integrity and the Truth is more important to me than just winning a Senate seat for an unscrupulous politician who pretends to be a Democrat.

In closing I would like to state the obvious:

Anyone who demands that one puts FAMILY  AFTER  political rhetoric needs to check their priorities or lack thereof.

Palumbo has no right to demand a vote, an endorsement party loyalty or call upon anybody to do anything  for the greater good when he so clearly lacks the ability to DO THIS HIMSELF.

Every vote counts and I voted and endosed the better candidate for the right reasons.

May you be free to do the same.

A.M. Moscoso

It’s My Party and I’ll Call It Out If I Want To

Stand For Children and their checkbook had devastating consequences in the 2016 Primary in the First Legislative District in Washington State.

Supporting Stand For Children’s “democratic” candidate because Democrats feel they need to “save the seat for Democrats”is a forgone conclusion

First LD Democrats  need to wise up to the fact we  that lost  seat  when Palumbo advanced to the General- with Stand For Children pulling his leash.

I’ve  been told that the Republican Party considers the seat “won” No matter who wins  the seat in the First LD General.

Part of that certainty, I’ve been told from reliable sources,  came from Palumbo himself.

I supported and endorsed a Republican, (Mindie Wirth)for this seat because she ran a clean, open and honest campaign.

Guy Palumbo did NONE of those things.

Mindie did- she has been honest about her positions and who she is since she began her campaign

I could have cast my vote silently for Mindie, or been a party person and voted for Palumbo or silently no voted and took it for the team.

However, I know that Mindie will put the First above Party…and in turn I felt I confident I could reach across part lines to support her.

Please consider doing the same.

Guy Palumbo Takes Low Road- or Guy Palumbo Never LEFT The Low Road.

It would appear that some of Guy Palumbo’s supporters are concerned because  Guy Palumbo has been called out for  lying about his contribution to the Transportation Package Rep Moscoso actually did the work on.

Once again his campaign is coining phrases like Guy being one of ” little people” who wrote letters to Olympia just to remind you who the big bad Latino is- I guess they have to have one more good hard blow on that dog whistle. Guy Palumbo just can’t help himself. One could say that resorting to character and cultural assassination is what happened during  a nasty campaign season- but the perplexing things is WHY Palumbo still needs to do that to Rep Moscoso.

So I will bring up a couple of points- they are worth mentioning because they demonstrate the same lack of respect for my family that Palumbo ran on, but that he is clearly patronizing and showing a lack of respect to the Voters by his continued attack on their intelligence.

Guy Palumbo did spend time in Olympia-only he hung out at hearings for Education ( literally, he stood in the back of the room and played on his phone ) Guy Palumbo had the chance to be at Transportation hearings, but he chose NOT to.

Considering his campaign was funded by Charter Schools in the Primary one can see why

(READ: Following the charter school cash in the Washington State Primary: The latest money scheme )

And let’s be clear, Guy didn’t run on being the Leader who mobilized a community, he didn’t even MENTION that he was a part of a letter writing campaign.

This is how he sold HIMSELF

From Representative Luis Moscoso’s FB page:

Guy Palumbo never once contacted me about his concerns regarding this issue. Sen. Hobbs & Sen. Liias, Minority Ranking Member and Asst. Minority Ranking Member, both contacted me as Co-Vice Chair of the House Transportation Committee to introduce legislation to improve SR 522 after it was cut from the original Senate Budget. I submitted the request and it was added to the final budget because of my effort. The Legislature has the documents to prove it.
I corrected Guy months ago about this in front of the Seattle Times interview panel when he tried take credit for my work then. Rep. Judy Clibborn also said he was “wrong” in her Everett Herald LTE, July 8, 2016.

My District has voted for the Democrats- and  for good reason- they were solid candidates.

I am sure that if Guy Palumbo were to go to Olympia the only person he will be serving is himself- he has a proven track record of doing exactly that.

And The Truth Shall Get You Banned

I have written to some length about Guy Palumbo who is running in Washington State for the Position of State Senator For The First Legislative District

HERE ( Guy Palumbo Has Not Earned Your Vote/ Herald ) and how his dirty campaign affected me and Luis’ family HERE

What I focused on was Guy Palumbo’s libelous attacks on my family ( myself, my sons and their father, Representative Luis Moscoso )

What further needs to be called out are Guy Palumbo’s attacks on the truth- in at least two flyers and the most recent one to reach voters Guy Palumbo is not only lieing about work that he claims he has accomplished in Olympia- without ever having been elected- he outright took credit for work and a record that was accomplished by Representative Moscoso.

It’s bad enough that Guy Palumbo’s campaign claimed Luis and our Sons are ‘culturally inclined’ and groomed to beat women, but Guy Palumbo stole Luis’ fine record and is claiming that work Representative Moscoso did as his own.

It’s gesture of contempt and Guy Palumbo as a candidate just gave you a taste of what Guy Palumbo the Politician is capable of doing.

I am dismayed that Palumbo is still trying to take credit for my work.

Why I can’t endorse the Democratic Candidate in the 1st LD Senate Race this year

It has been my honor to serve the good people of the 1st Legislative District these past 5 1/2 years. I firmly believe in the concept of a part-time Citizen Legislator, having been recruited to run by two former 1st LD Legislators after I retired in 2009. I was never interested in becoming a full-time politician then at age 60. This suited my open-minded approach to the office as a Servant Leader and gained me many friends on both sides of the aisle in Olympia. It has been a privilege I will always treasure to have served my constituents to the best of my ability.

It is therefore all the more difficult for me to issue this statement about why I can not endorse the Democratic Senate candidate in the General Election. I wouldn’t have said much more than that until I read Mr. Palumbo’s egregious and untruthful comments in a HeraldNet article last week. (http://www.heraldnet.com/…/1st-district-senate-candidate-s…/) I must set the record straight about who Palumbo really is and how different we really are. Especially when it comes to integrity.

Many Democrats, some Independents, and even a few Republicans have encouraged me to write this: the Truth behind what was arguably the nastiest political campaign primary the 1st LD has ever experienced.

It is presumptuous of Palumbo to just “believe” he can get my support or anyone else’s by falsely stating that he and I “overwhelmingly share the same views on the issues.” This statement is ludicrous at best, for if we indeed shared like views on issues, why challenge me if not for personal gratification and a desire to place himself in a position of power?

Ever since Palumbo first ran as an “Independent” (no party affiliation) against Senator McAuliffe in 2012 it should have been clear to all that he is just a Democrat of Convenience. Realizing he could get more traction as a Democrat rather than as an Independent, he capriciously and disingenuously claimed he was now a Democrat. But he never even bothered to attend any 1st Legislative District meetings to introduce himself until after he lost in the 2012 Primary! It is no secret that Palumbo was recruited by Charter School Billionaires then and now. He is their lackey as they try to “buy” another Senate seat.

This past March, even before Senator McAuliffe had announced her retirement from the Senate, the Chair of the 1st LD Dems (a personal friend of Palumbo’s) threatened that Palumbo would challenge me if I didn’t rescind my support for Rep. Dunshee to be appointed to the Snohomish County 5th Council District instead of Palumbo. Another 1st LD official then set up a fake 1st LD Democrats page to promote Palumbo and trash me. If you didn’t agree with them you were kicked off the site. Palumbo used this and other social media to demonstrate that he actually doesn’t share the same views as me.

Palumbo lied about my transportation record in the House by trying to take credit for work I did in the 2015 Transportation Revenue Package. He continued lying on his campaign mailers even after Rep. Judy Clibborn, Chair of the House Transportation Committee, called him out in a letter to the Editor: Palumbo wrong about opponent’s transportation record. (http://www.heraldnet.com/…/palumbo-wrong-about-opponents-t…/)

Palumbo had already begun spreading malicious rumors about me several years ago in Olympia and in the 1st LD. I confronted him about this on several occasions but he denied it. The gossip continued so I asked Palumbo to participate in a facilitated mediation session to discuss the reasons for his personal attacks on me. He refused. He was clearly afraid to explain what several public officials and Party members told me he said about me and my family. Similar personal attacks were then taken up by his Charter School PAC donors during the campaign.

It’s for these reasons that I cannot make an endorsement in this race. The need for this statement reflects my disappointment that Palumbo would have stooped to such negative campaigning, funded almost solely by Charter School PACS and 1% Billionaires, in running for office. Guy Palumbo has exhibited some very unsavory behaviors in his pursuit of this office. I can not support anyone who has been as underhanded and deceitful as Mr. Palumbo.

I believe elected office is a noble calling, one predicated on collaboration and civility that transcends partisanship. Even my Republican opponent met with me right after the Primary to ask how she could better appreciate my views and as well as those of the residents of the 1st LD who have elected only Democrats for the last 24 years.

Palumbo has yet to acknowledge my concession made nearly a month ago or let alone ask for my support. Yet he has the effrontery to pose as a Democrat who claims to share my views on issues. His only desire now is to co-opt my reputation as a progressive Democrat to get himself elected. 1st LD constituents are just now learning what an unscrupulous opportunist he really is.

Because of all this many Democrats, both elected officials and Party activists, have been telling me for weeks now that I must not endorse Palumbo.

I only wish there was a real progressive Democrat running for the Senate in the Nov. 8 General Election.

During the Primary both Luis and I were banned from the First Legislative District Democrats LD page- I’m not sure why I was because at the time I didn’t speak to the campaign- but Luis was banned for various reasons one being in the end that he would not support Guy Palumbo.

The person who did that to us was the person who brought Guy Palumbo into LD for the first time EVER just after Guy Palumbo lost his first race. Dan, our chair insisted we are a ‘big tent party’ and there was no reason Guy Palumbo couldn’t join. He had first started out in that race as an Independent and then in the same race switched to being a democrat. So I guess one can see why he may not have gone to our LD meetings.

Being banned and uninvited to meetings and clubs happens- but to be banned from the Democratic Party because one is afraid that as long as someone with true Character and integrity is around the person who is lacking in those areas will be shown for what they really are.

It’s sad, it’s desperate and it is NOT Democratic, is it?

From Creepy Pal To The Wealthy to Shady Political Candidate: Guy Palumbo

He ( Guy Palumbo ) is a Snake- feel free to quote me on that " Tony Yuchasz Executive Director- House Democratic Campaign Committee ...

He ( Guy Palumbo ) is a Snake- feel free to quote me on that ” Tony Yuchasz Executive Director- House Democratic Campaign Committee …

We want to hear that our candidates and electeds are willing to reach across the aisle to make things work for our state, for our country. It shows that they are willing to be respectful, reasonable and that they care willing to set aside  personal politics for what is best for the communities they lead.

We as voters should be willing to do the same when casting our votes for candidates to office.

In this election a member of my family- Representative Luis Moscoso  ran for State Senate in Washington  for the First Legislative district. His  challenger was Guy Palumbo who can only be described as a Political Opportunist as opposed to the Democrat that he claims to be.

Guy ran a smear campaign that depicted Luis and our sons as  men who were groomed to beat women because as the message went it was ‘cultural’ ( Luis and our sons are Latino ). You can read my letter about the libelous campaign Palumbo benefited from as it appeared in the Herald  HERE.

One of Guy’s other twisted tactics was to run on Luis’ fine record by claiming to be an expert in the fields Luis has actually worked in and then blasted Luis for not fixing every single problem we face in Olympia on the very same record Guy proudly claimed as his own.

Guy also put forward that Luis outright lied about his degree from the University of Iowa in the Voter’s Guide.

What most people didn’t know was that the person who sent it through to the voter’s guide despite our instructions that it needed to be corrected, was our  consultant.

We  fired that consultant  after the election.

He works for Guy Palumbo now.

Today in the mail I received Palumbo’s flyer- and in it is an outright lie about Palumbo’s ‘expertise’ in transportation:

Guy’s letter writing campaign as stated in this ad didn’t secure anything- the bills Luis worked on passing them DID and what should be made clear here is that in no time did  Guy ever contact Luis’ office  (As the Vice Chair for Transportation who lives in Guy’s district that should have been Guy’s first stop in pushing his letter writing campaign AT LEAST). At no time did Guy show up and speak at hearings ( which is something any concerned citizen who is able to attend can do ).

However  credit given where credit is due: Palumbo  did give a presentation on transportation to our Legislative District.

That’s not a problem- the problem is when you imply it was your work or that you played a part in the work when you did not.

(See Article ” Palumbo Wrong About Opponent’s Transportation Record ” HERE)

In addition, Guy has touted his endorsement by ” Public School Employees”  to further muddy the waters in the hope that voters will think that he as a candidate who was funded by Charter School PAC  money and did not NOT receive an endorsement by the Teachers Union, is somehow endorsed by them now.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

The Public School Employees are a separate body from WEA.

That’s called campaign messageing:Palumbo Style.

This ad and its falsehoods and half-truths was donated to Guy’s campaign by the Washington State Democratic Central Committee.

This is the party that me and my family have supported. This is the party were Luis served as Secretary and where I  served as President for a women’s political group. We are paid members of the First LD Democrats. On behalf of Democrats in my state- I could not be more ashamed they have played a part in Palumbo’s campaign.

So in this race- and a few others- I am breaking ranks with my party and this is why:

In the past I have been able to rely on my party to help guide me through the voting process. They were a good resource and for the most part they fielded great candidates. Their support of Palumbo, that single endorsement has made it clear to me that they are more concerned with how many seats they can get then they are with character and integrity in the candidates that they support..

As a Democrat  who has held various positions in the party I could not be more concerned with the road they have chosen to take for the likes  of Guy Palumbo- the candidate whose claims to have accomplished things in Olympia already but whose record of that great work can’t be verified.

My guess is because the record he claims to own is not under his name.

Guy Palumbo’s campaign practice of using dog whistles to scare voters to his side is a cheap campaign strategy and Palumbo has mastered its use:

Don’t vote for Luis because all Latino men are culturally inclined to beat women. SO DON’T VOTE FOR HIM LADIES.

Don’t vote for my Republican challenger because Republicans hate LGBTQ. SO COME OVER HERE PROGRESSIVES.

But in the end Guy Palumbo has to play this cheap stunt because the fact is, Palumbo has nothing of substance to offer the voters in this district.

Palumbo’s opponent Mindie Wirth does have character, integrity. She has great respect for ALL of the people she wants to serve.  I would urge voters to consider supporting  her as I firmly believe that she is willing to put the needs of the District above that of her Party and herself.

It’s a great quality and one that is needed now more then ever.

The Terrifying Crop-Guy Palumbo’s Legacy

Claudius: What’s the matter with us, Herod? These are the children of my noble brother Germanicus. How could it happen?

Herod: Well, you know what they say about the tree of the Claudians: it bears two kinds of fruit: the sweet and the bad.

Claudius: Well, they’ve certainly had a terrifying crop this season.

This quote from ” I Claudius ” by Robert Graves perfectly sums up this campaign season-  we’ve seen it played out in all of it’s toxic glory on TV, Social Media and on bumper stickers.

But for me and my family this ‘terrifying crop ‘ of fruit  fell from a tree in our own backyard

During the Primary  a fellow “Democrat”  running for the same seat as one of my family members ( Rep Luis Moscoso) ran a negative campaign that not only was designed to attack Luis, it was designed to attack me and our sons as well.

It was effective and not only was Guy Palumbo rewarded by a place on the ballot, he managed to cast a dark cloud over our entire family.

I’d say ask Palumbo why he had to attack our family, but from what I’ve learned in my dealings with Guy over the years-

he might give you an answer…

but there is no guarantee what he will tell you will be the truth or that you’ll get the same answer five minutes later.

In the end, my so called ” friends ” in the Democratic Party told us that it was too bad this happened, they knew none of the negative campaign spin was true and gee they’re sorry but,  ” You need to get over it and support Palumbo. WE need to save that seat for the Democrats.”

To coin a phrase- I feel like certain Democrats in the Snohomish County First Legislative District grabbed my Family by the p&^*y  and they honestly don’t think that there was anything wrong with what they’ve requested of us.

In fact, I’d go as far as to say they feel entitled to have made that request.

What follows is my Letter and Link to the source that was published by The Herald today:

On behalf of Rep. Luis Moscoso’s family, I strongly disagree with The Daily Herald Editorial Board’s decision to endorse Guy Palumbo in the 1st Legislative District. I also feel that the editorial board’s description of this race as “bitter” is a gross understatement of what really happened to my family.

Specifically, your endorsement is a slap in the face to me and my family who were affected by the dirty and libelous campaign that Palumbo waged during the primary.

Palumbo knows that what goes on the internet stays on the internet. His use of social and print media depicted Moscoso men as being culturally groomed to beat women. And I was drawn as the mother who stood by and did nothing because, according to Palumbo’s messaging, this sort of behavior is “cultural.”

The heinous stereotype that Palumbo used to get a spot on the ballot this November was despicable and both he and his consultant should be ashamed of themselves for using it.

In this toxic and hateful campaign season, it’s easy for one to think Palumbo stooped to these low campaign tactics during the primary.

The fact is Palumbo didn’t stoop to anything — those are his methods and I believe I have shown he has a proven track record of using them.

One should look very carefully at Palumbo’s integrity and character during the primary before taking into consideration The Herald’s endorsement of him when casting their ballot in November.
