Gingerbread- Cookie For Your Thoughts

I Died, Apparently

wp-1476281101088.jpg

One year I got a necklace from an acquaintance in a Gift Exchange.

I gave her a bottle of wine and she gave me this charm that was supposed to represent friendship.

Two weeks after she gave it to me, my dog died and she went on facebook and posted ” My dear friend’s dog Anita just died.”

My dog’s name was Domino.

I’m Anita.

And then I found out for some mutual friends she had my name and my dog’s name confused all along and when people tried to correct her she actually told them they were wrong- she had issues. Like if you said the sky was blue she’d say it’s not quite blue. It’s more like fain purple.

The entire situation was kind of funny, but weird.

I took the charm off of the necklace and added it to the charms that Domino used to wear on her collar ( she had at least 14 of them, she got 1 for Christmas every year ) that I keep in my treasure chest.

I’ll have to admit, I won’t say that was the worst gift I ever got, but it was the most meaningless- and the strangest.

Holidailies Prompt: Favorite Winter Memories

merry-christmas

Every first snow of winter  is the best memory ever.

I love that soft crackle when the grass frosts over and the  roads and sidewalks freeze and the concrete twinkles like stars.

No past memory is better then that moment when you step outside in your winter coat and gloves ( I wear mittens ) and your scarf wrapped around your neck and that first blast of cold air hits you and you wonder if going outside at exactly that moment is the best idea you have ever had.

Of course it is and you know if for sure when your start your walk through that first snow of the Winter.

In thinking about it, what makes that first snow so special is the way it turns your every day world into something alien, how it turns a walk, a drive or your own yard into a new world.

A world that is dangerous, mysterious- a world that has teeth.

I love to take walks in the snow at night- there is enough light to make things glow and not enough light to distract you from the sounds and smells of winter.

The first snow sizzles when it hits the ground, just like the first rain after a long dry summer on dead grass.
