WP Daily Prompt: How has technology changed your job?

I have been working in warehouses since the late1980’s.
I was there when we went from using paperwork, file cabinets, clipboards and pens to using phones and computers and tablets.
Going on line made keeping track of my inventory and where and when it was shipping, where it was at that second so much easier. On top of that there was this little chubby icon in overalls with a big demonic ( I suppose it was supposed to be a reassuring smile ) that would pop up and ask me if I had a question when I tried to feed the system bad information.
So I suppose you could say it made the clerical a breeze.
Every once and awhile though systems crash, or the power fails and to give it a human spin our computers have a nervous breakdown.
One year I was working for a company that had eight warehouses and when our system failed all but 2 warehouses continued to function.
One was mine.
Me and one other warehouse went back to the old school way of shipping and receiving and the other 6 had Managers who had never worked under the old way of doing things had no way of moving anything forward.
I have to admit, when we got back on line it was no fun to go back and have to do all of that data entry but donuts and pizza were involved- so it was all good in the end.
Since then, me and the other warehouse manager have moved on to other companies and I know that when there are issues there now with the computer all eight of the warehouses shut down now.
I’m Gen X- some of us used to buy pens with scented ink. I miss those days. My shipping documents used to smell like strawberries.
