Song of The Graceless Cadaver

Goya

Goya

Her face is a mask

painted on

with a shaking hand

her heart pumps wine, not blood

the years

have not been kind

to her.

Bitter and mean

youth has left her

a graceless cadaver.

She coughs and she hacks

a cigarette in her hand

she’s  used up and spent

twisted and bent

waiting for life

to knock on her door

again.

This morning- there was a little bite to the air, it was dark and October will be here soon.

I wish it were now.

This morning I saw the slow murder of Pioneer Square- she is slowly being crushed to death  by glass and cranes and steel.

I wish that were not happening now.

Or ever.

I wonder where this stone came from, is it art?

I wonder about that now.

I wonder what will happen to the rest of Pioneer Square- now.
