Woof

I dress my dog up for Halloween.

He doesn’t like to dress up and sometimes people will ask me why I put money into a dog costume that he will only wear long enough for me to snap a few pictures.

That’s an easy one to answer- because he looks cute and I want to, that’s why.

You’d never guess this dog likes to walk around with a blanket over his head because he was SO put out by the veil attached to the brim of his hat that he immediately fell to the floor and tried to rub the veil out of his face.

In this  pic I decided to make Hamish pose with his Bark Box Halloween toys and in case you’re curious he was not happy to sit there in the middle of his new toys and pose.

The toilet paper roll that says, ” Poooo” next to his front paw is STILL one of his favorites.

He doesn’t even look like that when the Vet gives him his shots. LOL.

One of my favorite Halloween rituals is to buy Hamish a Halloween costume and during the 100 Days of Halloween I’m going to give this a lot of thought. I’m thinking this year he’d make a great Taco.

We shall see- I have 95 Days left to decide.

Three Fun Halloween Facts About Me-

Three Fun Halloween Facts About ME-

Three little Halloween Facts about me-

#1

When I was super little- like up until the first grade I used to ask to dress up like a dog for Halloween- even though I really wanted to be a werewolf. I thought it was a compromise LOL.

I ended up being a ” Princess ” because that’s the ‘compromise’ my Mom gave me. So I ended up wearing a jacket over my costume and wore the mask over the back of my head.

My favorite house to visit on Halloween wasn’t the one next door ( that I actually really loved to go to )where the ” Hippie Kids ” lived. The cool things about them were that the littler you were they gave you more candy, they went all out and decorated their house and wore awesome costumes.

My favorite house to visit on Halloween was Mrs. Parson’s house ( she lived on the other side of us ). She was always wore black and a single strand of pearls and she was very old fashioned but I discovered ( after overhearing her talking to my Great Grandmother one day ) that her Dad had been an executioner and she had an old grandfather clock in her living room with the hands stopped at 3:00 ( I never learned why ).

All of that aside, Mrs. Parson’s was always very nice to me- she used to invite me to tea after school and she helped me with my reading lessons.

Interesting followup to that- I was reading up two years ( second grand level )by the time the school year ended and I was only 6 years old and had just finished kindergarten.

I had a job at a cemetery and on Halloween Night and All Soul’s Day we used to have a lottery to see who could pull the overtime and work because we used to order Pizza and take bets on how fast it took the Pizza place to call back and verify that YES we were a Funeral Home and YES we wanted our Pizza. We spent a lot of money on Pizza that night, but it was fun. Also we used to like to wander around the cemetery see what people were getting up to.

I wish Youtube had been around then.

But all I have are my memories and that will have to do.

100 Days of Halloween Happy 2022 Prompt: About Me

My Favorite Horror Movie

#100daysofhalloweenhappy asks what my favorite Horror Movie is and after really thinking hard about it this is my response:

My favorite Horror movie is also my favorite Christmas movie- hang on before you grab a DVD of ” The Exorcist ” or one of the ” Halloween” installments or even ” Scream ” and wave it under my nose before you smack me with it, let me tell you why ” A Christmas Carol ” is must see TV at my house on Halloween.

First off there are ghosts- say what you will but all of the ghosts are pretty grim and spooky. Even when they are speaking softly or laughing.

Here is a perfect example of that point:

Those two  little kids that travel with the Ghost of Christmas Present are purely demonic.

In the movie and in the book it’s pretty clear that given the chance they’d eat you alive. Literally. The ghost doesn’t warn Scrooge about his ghoulish maid and her creepy friends who rob the dead before the undertaker shows up- not in so many words anyway. But he warns him about the children. They have one function and one function alone. They exist to corrupt the human soul. SPOOOOOKKKYYY and horrifying.

The we learn that from his staff, to his business acquaintances, to his one and only friend- Scrooge is surrounded by people who don’t care if he lives or dies and the worst part is they relish the idea of him in a neglected grave. In fact they’ve been pushed to the limits because of Scrooge’s own dark soul and I get it- they’re at the point where they would dig him up and spit in his worm eaten face.

Of course, at the end Scrooge finds rememption and the even the blind man’s dog that seemed to say, “No eye at all is better than an evil eye, dark master.” liked Scrooge.

However- when I think about the movie and those ghosts that travel the Earth and haunt people in the hopes that people like Scrooge can be saved, it begs the question-

What happens to the ones they can’t save?

And that my friends is where the horror gathers itself up and flies and why  ” A Christmas Carol ” is my favorite Horror Movie
