The Final Word

Wp Prompt: What’s a skill you consider basic, that most people don’t actually know how to do?

It’s a skill that is wired into our hearts and brains- that skill is the ability to talk to each and to another degree, to be able to sit in a chair or on a blanket under the night sky and tell stories.

That wonderful skill is going away.

I blame it on emojis- people don’t tell you what scares them…they send a text with a skull or a screaming face with words acting as bookends to hold the few words they manage to thumb out fo their phone.. When they’re happy they send emojis of dancing pandas and clowns and happy faces with tears squiring out of the corner of its eyes.

It’s left to you to ‘fill in the blanks’  on what is taking place in this weird empty conversation and most people reply with an emoji and a few words to act as bookends.

It’s getting to be a very quiet world out there.

I remember I was at a meeting once and my friend was staring down into her phone ( of course ) and just as she started to laugh, the lady sitting in front of us started to laugh to and then the lady who was sitting in front of us turned around and said to  my friend who was seated next to me, ” Are you kidding? ”

” I know right. ” the lady in front of us said.

My friend texted something back and then they started to laugh again.

I am starting to think that the art of conversation  will be declared legally dead  sooner rather than later

and I think it’s gravestone will read:

Gravestone with crying emoji and inscription for beloved friend Giggles, 1998 to 2023

A gravestone memorializes ‘Giggles’ with a crying emoji and heartfelt inscription
