You Suck Stella

What’s a book you never finished but still think about?

When I read a book, I always finish it, even if the book blows at supersonic speed.

I will do that because books are journeys and once I start one, even if the conclusion promises to be pretty damn awful I will see it through.

The only exception to that rule is a romance novel that I started to read. I had decided to read it because the author was coming into our store for a book signing and guess what. She turned out to be the most Unholiest Bitch Of A Human Being in ANY trade or walk of life that I had ever met.

She treated us like ‘the help ‘ and she LIKED it.

No only did I not finish the book, just for laughs we moved her books into the Horror section and nobody noticed for a few weeks.

LOL.

Rock On Dolly

When I was little ( around  10 I think )I was thrilled to learn that Dolly Parton played guitar and wrote her own songs,  because if she was a girl and could do something in music that boys did, so could I.

My parents knew I loved rock and roll so they thought my Dolly Parton worship was odd but they were good with it… especially my Dad who always watched Dolly with me when she was on tv. LOL.

I’ve played guitar for over 50 years now and Dolly was with me on that journey.

I am broken hearted at her being gone.

RIP Dolly, I will always love you.

Welcome To Hill House

WP Prompt: Which fictional world would be the most fun to vacation in?

If I could chose any world to vacation in, it would be the one where one Hugh Crain built house stands “some distance from any town” and was built in a lonely, isolated spot.

Some have said Hugh Crain’s house is foul, it holds darkness within, that as sensible as it may pretend to be, it is not sane.

Hill House has killed, it dreams, it is haunted.

I would love to spend a week there. I would like to spend time in the Library where Abigail’s caregiver hung herself from the spiral staircase. I would love to spend time reading the books that someone like Hugh Crain- the father of this house, would want to save and read when winter set in or a lightening storm raged outside.

I can see him doing that, can you?

I know that the dining room is inviting but it’s hard to find and that people get lost in Hill House when they travel from room to room. They can go in one door and find themselves on the roof or stumbling down the driveway in the dark.

There’s a dog, I’ve heard that roams the halls and the grounds. Maybe I could make friends with it.

Maybe I’d want to stay there for longer then a week for a vacation.

Maybe.

“Within, walls continued upright, bricks met neatly, floors were firm, and doors were sensibly shut; silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there, walked alone.”

“The one for whom the sun shines”

Her tomb was looted and her mummy destroyed. But the artwork on the walls of her tomb are considered the most beautiful in Egypt and through that artwork one could easily argue that she lives.

Queen Nefertari was great Wife of Pharaoh Ramesses II, and she was buried in Egypt’s Valley of the Queens. His epitaph to her is probably one of the most lovely I have ever read:

“The one for whom the sun shines”

Before you think I’m just morbid, I was a Morticians Apprentice, so I’m no stranger to funerary rites. So with that in mind, I would have liked to have been there on the day Nefertari began her journey to the Field of Reeds.

I would have liked to have seen her carried into her tomb in all of it’s glory and seen her grave goods and offerings placed in the chambers for her use in the next world.

Of course I would have seen it by torchlight but that’s ok.

What fascinates me is that once the living people left and the light was taken away her tomb was plunged into darkness. You couldn’t have seen your hand in front of your face. But all of those colors and those stories were all around you,  the romantic in me says you wouldn’t have needed to see it with your eyes.
