This morning- there was a little bite to the air, it was dark and October will be here soon.

I wish it were now.

This morning I saw the slow murder of Pioneer Square- she is slowly being crushed to death  by glass and cranes and steel.

I wish that were not happening now.

Or ever.

I wonder where this stone came from, is it art?

I wonder about that now.

The Embalmer’s Hours

Daily Prompt

Silence

Write a new post in response to today’s one-word prompt

I used to work in a funeral home

I used to sit with the dead.

I used to fit them in their finest clothes

I arranged their flowers, their hair, their hands.

As I worked

I’d listen to Mozart, sometimes it was the Ramones

sometimes I would eat Pez and sprinkle holy water

on a plant we kept in the hall.

The dead had died

and I was alive

we were mismatched companions for awhile

but

I wonder what it was

that

 watched us both

in

such quiet and thoughtful silence.
