This is my cat Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart- he was suffering from kidney failure and died a few months after I took this picture.

But do you see that look in his eyes?

Determination-strength.

He fought to stay with me for as long as he could- and he did.

He was almost 18 years old when he died.

Hamish Macbeth!

He came into my life when I was in the midst of a lot of change and uncertainty.

He was happy as a pup and he’s a happy go lucky full grown dog.

I can’t believe in the midst of such great loss ( my Dad and cousin had died just before I got Hamish and I was suffering from severe depression ) I was able to raise a creature like Hamish.

A few years ago the King Tut exhibit was on tour and it stopped in Seattle.

There was a giant statue of Anubis at Train Station and it looked over the building I work in.

I was an embalmer and I grew up cutting my teeth on books about Archeology. Anubis has always been a meaningful figure to me.

Having him watch over me for a little while was … bliss.

Deadmen ( and the ladies too, of course ) DO tell tales and I felt them everywhere at Saint Louis Cemetery #1 in New Orleans.

I took this picture on Halloween- The most blissful day of the year.

Werewolves on Halloween in New Orleans.

Halloween does not and it cannot get better then that.

Yes it can. But that was SUCH a great Halloween.

I Write Therefore I Am

Everyday Inspiration

Day One: I write because …

Today, tell us: why do you write? Set a timer and free-write for 15 or 30 minutes without stopping. Begin your post with “I write because …” or start it any other way you wish.

I write because I can’t draw or paint, so I make pictures with words.

I can’t sing so I try to write poems and that way I can  lift my voice up as high or as low and with much feeling as I can manage.

I write because the world is full of stories just waiting to be found and to be told. When I write, I feel like I just found treasure.

I write because I want to be heard and understood, I write because I want to listen and learn.

I write because I hope that after I’m gone, someone will find something I wrote and say, ” You know, I think I get her. She was sort of cool in a weird way.”

I write because I the world is full of adventure and mystery, horrible cruelty and sweet kindness and I want to do my part to save those little glimpses into our ‘once upon a time’.

I write because I have always been a storyteller.

Mr. Dancey’s Bones

Mr Dancey’s Bones

used to waltz alone

on the dusty granite floor of his tomb.

Mr Dancey’s Bones

used to sing alone

starting at Sunset

in his dark and dusty tomb.

Mr Dancey’s Bones

should have been left alone

to waltz and sing alone

in his crumbling lonely tomb.

But you went to his tomb

and opened the door

now

Mr Dancey’s Bones

won’t be alone

anymore.
