The Obdurate Sinner

If I am going to burn

because I am not good enough

pure enough

smart enough

to see and hear

what I am supposed

to think and feel

defined by rules

and deeds

penned by another’s hand

I will gladly strike the match

and go with the flames

free to run, free to walk, free to fly

free to be me, free to be a dream, free to sleep

free to think

and breathe.

You can stand there.

You can watch me burn,  see by my light

and wait for the darkness to take you

I Know The Darkness

We go there when we are tired of running

even when

of the signs say turn back

walk,  crawl, drag yourself

away from here

as fast as you can.

We close our eyes and fly into the familiar

hungry darkness .

Without hesitation.

You know where the bodies are buried

nothing can surprise you

nothing will haunt you

not here.

Not in the familiar darkness.

Base is where we find ourselves

when we dig down

hit the bottom

and find ourselves

wrapped in the arms of the  familiar and hungry darkness

standing with relief

in our graves.
