We all had our roles to play
the hero, the whore, and death
Hammered into a frame, bound by ink to a page
cast in a story
that will always begin
with the end.
Swimming on dry land
flashes of blue and red and pink
caught in a tide
pulled away
by the last warm rays
of summer.
