Violet

” Tell me a story Mommy”

Violet opened one eye and it found it’s way to the clock next to her bed.

Two in the morning her clock read.

She closed her eye .

” Please Mommy tell me a story. Tell me about the monster in the attic. It’s forever until morning and I can’t sleep.”

A little hand fell to her eye and gently lifted her eyelid open.

Violet looked up.

She didn’t have any children.

Once Upon My Time

When I was a little girl, I wanted to grow up and have a career and my own apartment just like Mary Richards- my career choices in case your curious were:

Astronaut, Writer, Fighter Pilot or a Pirate ( with my OWN Pirate ship- 0f course)

Nobody ever said I couldn’t do what  set out to do and nobody told me I had to be thin and pretty and have a cute boyfriend at my side.

Those were the days.

Cold World Blues

john-boyes

Today I was hoping for the sun to shine

was hoping to see it, feel it on this tired face of mine

Today I was hoping for the sun to shine

was hoping to feel it warm this cold heart of mine

The Moon came up like it always does

the stars burned all night against the dark sky- you  know they did

But this morning when I opened my eyes

no Sun burned away, chased away  the  gathering dark clouds above

Today I was hoping for the Sun to shine.

Something has to warm this cold world of mine.
