Goin’ To The Zoo

In 1963 behind  a set of sturdy iron bars at the Bronx Zoo In New York, USA was an exhibit featuring the most dangerous animal in the world.

All these years later this animal is  still the most dangerous animal in the world and the damage it’s done to it’s own kind, to other animals and the planet it self since 1963 is the stuff of nightmares.

In 1963, the Bronx Zoo held quite a unique exhibit it’s name was “The Most Dangerous Animal In The World” and as you can see from the picture, the most dangerous animal is a human. They used a mirror so people could see their reflection and also added bars to represent a cage.

Is that my face

in the bathroom mirror

are those my eyes looking at me

with cool, cruel indifference?

I reach out my hand, draw it back, extend  a finger

tap, tap, tap

Is anybody home?

Are those my teeth,

is that my hair

when did those lines around my mouth appear?

That can’t be me

wearing that listless, expressionless face

has it ever dreamed, schemed or plotted

 a murder or revenge?

Tap tap tap goes my finger

against the mirror

clouding it with the cold that escapes from my lungs

and clings to it like poison gas

on a battlefield

from Once Upon A Time.

That can’t be my face.

It’s just so

Human.

A Little Song

WordPress Prompters want to  know: What strategies do you use to maintain your health and well-being?

Well prompters it’s like this- I remember how Chuckles the Clown was memorialized at his funeral ( before you get to freaked out, this is an episode of the Mary Tyler Moor Show titled, Chuckles Bites The Dust– ) , Chuckles’s death is caused by an overzealous parade elephant that mistook the clown, who was dressed as a peanut, for a real snack. )

When I reflect on Chuckles-his life, his death his motto for  acquiring  happiness, I  laugh before I start to  take myself to seriously.

That is how I maintain my health and well-being. Thank you for asking.

“A little song, a little dance,  a little seltzer down your pants.”

If You Go Down To The Woods Today

RDP Wednesday FOREST

I just finished reading a  short story by Algernon Blackwood called ” The Willows “.

In this story two friends- the Narrator and his companion ‘ The Swede ” are  taking a canoe trip on the Danube find themselves at a crossroads ( so to speak ) where this world intersects with another dimension- and in case you’re curious the beings  they come across from that dimension are not friendly.

The inhabitants from this other dimension are the  Willow trees, – the  wind, the waves in the Danube  and something they think is a  drowning victim rolling in the river, but then they realize it’s an Otter- or is it? .

As you dive into this story, you begin to see that the Willows, the sounds of the wind the River and the waves on the Danube aren’t the actual threat to the travelers. The minds of the Narrator and the Swede can’t really grasp what these creatures look like and this is what their confused brains are telling them they are seeing.

So since finishing this story, I have actually put alot of time into wondering what those creatures from that dimension look like.

I live in a State where I could head out to a river, somewhere in a Forest and all alone with nothing but the trees and the wind and the sound of the River rushing by I could try to picture them- that wouldn’t be a bad idea

or maybe it would not be a good idea, after all look at what happened to those kids  in the Blair Witch Project.

They went looking for a monster and they found it.

Lucky ducks.

That does it. I’m heading to the Forest as soon as I can manage it. Wish me well.
