What the Cat Said

I should not care for you

but I do

We should not have been friends

but we are

I watch you laugh and dream and wonder

at the world

with my eyes shaped for the night

my familiar who lives for the day

When Worlds Collide

When we are out walking and Hamish sees one of the dogs he likes to play with, he gets excited. He jumps around a bit and will stare at me over his shoulder until I get the point- we need to go OVER THERE and see his friend…like… Now!

If it’s a dog he doesn’t know or socialize with there can be an issue- like sometimes the other dog will freak out a bit.

When that happens I make Hamish sit and like magic he turns into the best little dog in the world. He’ll just sit there and stare straight ahead. It’s pretty impressive because some part of Hamish is always alert and happy and moving about.

It took me a while to figure out he was good at this because my cats do it- they turn into little statues and set off dogs walking by their window.

So my best little dog in the world aces this command in the hopes that the other dog will go crazy- and most of them do.

The minute I tell him to walk, he twirls his tail around in a circle and does his version of a laugh.

I love my dog, I love my cats but I think they have rubbed off on each other in some unexpected ways and I don’t know if I should laugh or be worried.

At this point, I think I choose…

amused.
