RDP Wednesday: WOOL

Franz Von Stuck
Wool can make you itch and it can also make you dance.
Wooly Bully is one of those songs ( like Louie Louie ) in that the words were hard to understand ( on purpose? no one really knows ) and in the case of Wooly Bully, there’s still debate about what the song is actually about.
When I was little I was convinced that Wooly Bully was a monster who wanted to learn to dance ( after all, he had two big horns ) and Hatty told Matty ” about this thing she saw “- which to anyone into spooky stories is the lead in to many a great ghost stories.
So consider this as you look at these great paintings by Franz Von Stuck that go along with the song and if you have the space you can dance to Joan Jett’s version of Wooly Bully that I’ve included.
I’ve also posted the lyrics- and FYI- L-7 means you’re a square.
I’m no square- are you?

Franz Von Stuck ” The Tease “
Wooly Bully
Uno dos, one two tres quatro
Ay, wooly bully
Watch it now, watch it
Here he comes, here he comes
Watch it now, he get ‘cha
Matty told Hatty
About a thing she saw
Had two big horns
And a wooly jaw
Wooly bully
Wooly bully
Yeah drive
Wooly bully
Wooly bully
Wooly bully
Hatty told Matty
Let’s don’t take no chance
Let’s not be L-seven
Come and learn to dance
Wooly bully
Wooly bully
Wooly bully
Wooly bully
Wooly bully
Watch it now, watch it watch it watch it
Ay
Ay, drive, drive, drive
Matty told Hatty
That’s the thing to do
Get you someone really
Pull the wool with you
Wooly bully
Wooly bully
Wooly bully
Wooly bully
Wooly bully
Watch it now, watch it, here he comes
You got it, you got it

Ah, L-seven. I haven’t hear that one since about 1962. Early Hopster slang for square, and was obsolete by ’63.
Until the 80’s anyway- L7 is an American punk rock band founded in Los Angeles, California, first active from 1985 to 2001 and re-formed in 2014
