Every Time The Phone Rings

RDP Wednesday: WASTE

The easy description of this photograph is this is just a homeless camp and that the homeless people who live here are drug addicts.

What you can’t see in this picture  are  the human lives that have been wasted- the children who aren’t being cared for by their parents, the children who will grow old and die in the blink of an eye under these blue tarps and mildewed and torn tents, the friend who will not be there when their presence would have made a difference in one life or maybe more-

the parents, grandparents, siblings, wives, husbands, girlfriends and boyfriends whose hearts will always skip a beat and stop every time the phone rings or there is a sharp hard  knock on the living room door.

So much time, so many moments, all of these lives-

Wasted.

Rebecca Goes To Town

For Fandango’s s Story Starter: Rebecca stared at her reflection in the mirror and wondered how a country girl like her was ever going to survive the big city?

Rebecca stared at her reflection in the mirror and wondered how a country girl like her was ever going to survive the big city?

She had never been further away then 20 miles from her home town. She didn’t know how to drive a car because she didn’t need one in the backwater, no name place she had flown in from a week ago and above all-

her name was Rebbeca.

She put her nose close to the mirror and then she lifted her eyes and looked deep into her reflection She felt like crying. She wanted to go home where everyone in town knows each other and nobody locks their doors and on Christmas and Halloween they always have a big party in Miss Fabian’s Barn.

Rebecca McDowell- that was her name and it didn’t scream adventure, it didn’t hint that the woman who owned that name was gutsy and brave and wanted to put purple streaks in her dark brown hair.

Maybe she thought, I should change my name to something exotic like Dante or Jingle or Livia- that might be it! She would name herself Jingle- she looked up at the ceiling and took a deep breath and then it came to her-

She would call herself Jingle Hungerford and she would put purple streaks in her hair  with a name like Jingle Hungerford she would take this town by storm.

She booped her reflection’s nose.

Especially when the Moon was full.
