 Ghost

I wandered through a cemetery looking for a ghost

I’ve been dreaming about it

thinking about it

I know it must be here

(after all )

I felt the chill

I heard it’s chains

I heard it leave it’s grave

and when I felt brave I turned around

No ghost, no ghoul was there.

I wandered  for hours

through a cemetery

looking for a ghost

I decided to rest for a little while

so  here in my tomb

I will wait.

Today I was out taking pictures at a cemetery, because that’s my idea of artistic expression but most of all it’s a great place to see how much we love and value our loved ones, our friends who have moved on before us.

Memorials do speak for themselves, but sometimes you get to learn a story and today was one of those days.

Hidden away in an older cemetery is a new cemetery and I got to chat with Maurice, the caretaker.

Maurice said it was okay for me to stroll around and I did.

He said it was ok to take pictures, but I was in the moment there and I wasn’t taking any at that point.

It is a lovely section, full of bright colors and flowers and lovely white headstones.

As I was about to walk away Maurice called me back and pointed out to graves side by side and he told me their story.

They belong two the two youngest people there.

One was of a grave of baby who only lived for three days.

Maurice had a hard time looking at that one, he knew the baby’s name, he knew she only lived for three days. The way he said it sounded like an echo-

Three Days.

Next to the baby is the grave of a young man.

He was a superb soccer player- Maurice said proudly that they thought for sure he was destined to play for the Sounders.

His parents are here almost everyday Maurice told me- and then he said it again, the young man loved Soccer so much- he had a future and it was obvious in death that his family and friends are still proud of him- death could not take that hope they had for him.

It was a great tribute to the young man’s short life.

It keeps him alive.

It was a good lesson – that death can’t take everything from us.

Sometimes it leaves behind the best parts of us, if we remember to look for it.

Screaming Pumpkins

There’s something about a smooth, dark organge and skull sized pumpkin that say’s  ” Halloween. “

And other pumpkins just scream:

These pictures are a few years old and I mention that for one reason.

I found these pumpkins in the Pumpkin Pile at my local grocery store- they were mixed in with regular looking Pumpkins.

People saw them in there and they were afraid to touch them- which was a relief to me because I got the best ones of the lot.

Sad to say, I haven’t seen these at my store since that year.

Some pumpkins have warts, but none looked like mutant pumpkins stolen by  the light of a blood red moon from a town that doesn’t show up on maps and populated by people who only roam the roadways that surround this nameless town by night.

I hope your pumpkin hunting and pumpkin carving adventure is bone chillingly delicious

and

I hope your Pumpkins scream Halloween.

I know mine will.
