Crunchy Leaves

Word of The Day: SPRIGHTLY

Lourry Legarde

The driest, darkest, crunchiest leaf falling from

a tree

any tree at all

twirls and swirls

through the air

like a butterfly

shiny and bright from it’s cocoon

taking wing for the first time.

But that doesn’t change the fact that the leaf is dead.

It’s just an image I like to hold in my head

as I age.
