Sometimes I feel like

Cough drops and batteries

packing string and thumbs tacks

tangled up and shoved into a drawer

that no one ever opens

for fear of ugly mess they will find inside-

Until the remote control dies

or the smoke alarm starts to chirp

or the dog breaks out in fleas

or your throat starts to itch

and you wonder

if what you need is in that neglected junky drawer.
