RDP Saturday: HUG

Gertrude Abercrombie, Pink Carnations, 1939
One year I heard a knock on my door and when I opened it there was a delivery man holding a box from a florist shop, he had a huge smile on his face.
” Happy Valentines Day! ” he said with a giant wink.
I resisted the urge to jab my finger in his eye, I hate it went people wink. It doesn’t look sassy or cute to me. It looks like some bug is working it’s way out of the back of your head. Most of the time I am entertained by such visions but not this one. It’s just creepy.
This time I let it go because that box of flowers was BIG.
I took that box and hugged it to my chest like Miss America accepting her flowers as she is being crowned.
I set it on the hall table and read the card from my Valentine.
He signed it with love and then I read the card again, so I could absorb what it said.
Or what it didn’t say.
Those flowers weren’t for me.
I left them on the table and those flowers suffocated in front of the both of us
in that box in the hallway with the card stuck to it’s top.
Great song 🙂
Aw.. sad.
My favorite Vday song ❤️😂
