In The Mood For Song Lyric Sunday

For Song Lyric Sunday

I love the original version of this song by Glenn Miller and I’m crazy about this version by Brian Setzer.

Setzer didn’t pump the song up with today’s technology , he added flourishes and touches to it and that just made the song more lively then ever. In addition I thought Setzer’s lyrics fit it perfectly.

I’ve also included the original version because how could I not?

I hope you enjoy both versions.

Come on baby
I jump into my rocket and Im ready to blast
I dont know where Im going but Im going there fast
Tonight there aint no future and there isnt a past
Well make it like the first time so it wont be the last
All I wanna do is everything that you ask
Dont you know Im really gettin in the mood

Got the jitter fingers and they’re ready to pop
When I get to groovin aint no way I can stop
Baby when we get there then were just gonna hop
Got to ride the feeling baby straight to the top
Girl you make my heart start beatin flippity-flop
Baby cant you tell Im getting in the mood

The joint is jumpin
Were onto something
The band is pumpin
Swingin and swayin and a-rock and rollin
Come on now
Were gonna party
Yeah to get it started
Im good to boogie
Blow that jiving music now

And when the party’s over
I just know where to go
Where the after hours people
Boogie you know
I wanna hang a while
Where the lights are real low
And whisper to my baby
And be takin’ it slow
And baby if you’re ready
Then I’m ready to blow
Baby, now I’m really getting
In the mood

How the joint is jumpin
Yeah, were onto something
O-o the band is pumpin
Swingin and swayin and a-rock and rollin
Come on now
Girl, were gonna party
Yeah to get it started
Ho ho Im good to boogie
Blow that jiving music now

I got on my best threads and my favorite shoes
Now it’s my time to play got no love for the blues
Understand what I’m sayin or you better get back
Got no time to waste cause I’m one hep cat
And when I start a-workin I cruise like Dynaflow
And when I’m in the mood I spread it all around
I might be the man want his party on the run
And when you see me comin just call me Big King Fun… HAH

When the party’s over
I just know where to go
Where the after hours people
Boogie you know
I wanna hang a while
Where the lights are low
And whisper to my baby
And be takin’ it slow
Baby if your ready
Then I’m ready to blow

Yeah the joint is jumpin
Girl, were onto something
Man, the band is pumpin
Swingin and swayin and a-rock and rollin
Come on now
Girl, were gonna party
Yeah to get it started
Come on! Im good to boogie
Blow that jiving music now

Im in the mood.

  1. It’s funny how the gal in the film scene thinks her little move, to the beat of the original music, is too much. But then, the words from Setzer are pretty out there for the time; I appreciate learning that the words were added. Nice post.

      • I was lucky in that respect too. My grandparents listened to country and bluegrass every Saturday night for 4 hours. My mom listened to 50’s and 60’s and I grew up to 70’s country and rock and roll. The jazz and classical came as I explored genres older than the 50’s and started playing in the school band in 6th grade. I am fortunate to have a love for most all music. 🙂

      • When I was little I adored Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton because they wrote their own songs and played the guitar- at that time it wasn’t common, still love them!

      • I love them too! I went to see Coal MIner’s Daughter in the Drive-In back in the day. I love Loretta with Conway Twitty the years they were together (as a singing duo) that is. 🙂
